What do the two of them like?

It's best for them to pick out a song that means something to them.

DH and MIL chose a Beatles song, because she loves the Beatles and he grew up listening to them with her.

My son and I danced to “My Boy” by Brice Lee and everyone was crying. We love country music and the song just really spoke to our relationship. Pick something that means something between the two of you.

H and his mom danced to Lynyrd Skynyrd's "Simple Man" because it meant something to the two of them. Your FH and his mom should figure this one out between the two of them. As far as kind of music - it doesn't need to be a specific kind as long as it's meaningful to the two of them.

My husband danced with his mom to "What a Wonderful World." She picked some really awful songs before they landed on that! lol

I agree that they should pick a song they both like. Some people want a super sentimental one; others prefer it to be more generic. Either is fine, but the dancers should decide.
