Mother-Son dance?

Kelsey, on April 20, 2015 at 10:46 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 4

Hi guys, I've always known and seen the traditional father-daughter dance, but now I see all of these "mother-son" dance song ideas. Is this a traditional thing or a more new tradition? I wonder this because my FH and his mother get along okay now, but they didn't speak for years and I think he'd feel a little awkward.

Is this something she might be expecting? Or is this a new thing?

I don't think she would expect it. I asked my DH if he wanted to do it, he is close with his mom, and he said no. let him decide on this one.

I think it's a lot newer thing than the Father/daughter dance.

I let FH decide if he wanted to do this or not. He is super close to his mom and said he would like to do it.

Now I just need him to sit down and actually find a song.

Every wedding I have ever gone to has had the mother/ son and father/ daughter dance. I don't think its a new tradition.

All that being said you don't have to do them. If you want to do it with your dad and FH doesn't want to with his mom then he doesn't have to. It might be a little awkward but just move along. Its really up to the both of you but she is probably expecting it. Just make sure you discuss with each other and FMIL so she isn't upset and caught off guard if you decide not to do it.

The mother son dance is NOT a new tradition. Its as old as the father daughter. However it is becoming less and less popular with modern weddings. Mainly because Mothers and Grooms are just so apathetic and do really care to do it.
