"Mother" of the Groom

When I got marred four weeks ago I become stepmom to his four kids.

The oldest two were with my husband's ex-girlfriend who hasn't been in the picture since they were young. Drugs took her away, they don't know where she is or if she's alive.

The oldest is getting married in two-weeks and i'm honored with the role of "mother" of the groom. I made sure to ask the bride what colors were off-limits! i've read enough of the posts here seeing brides hurt and offended by future MIL's choices in dresses.

I picked this one off Azazie, and my husband LOVES it. I don't like green, would have picked wine or navy blue, but those are the wedding colors. I'm bummed that I have to wear a girdle though. The material is SUPER soft and really comfortable though.

Trying to decide if I should wear a belt, and trying to decide if I should wear black or silver shoes. What are your thoughts? Any ideas or suggestions would be very welcomed and appreciated

I'd skip the belt and go with black shoes.

I guess I’m old fashioned but aren’t MOB and MOG dresses supposed to be floor length? You should probably show the pic to your future daughter-in-law if your concerned she won’t like it. My MIL and two aunts (who are like my moms) shared their dresses with me beforehand to make sure I didn’t have any qualms.

Not always. Depends on the wedding. This is a second marriage for both of them, so not as formal. I'm not concerned she won't like it, that's why I asked her about off-limit colors first. I also wanted to show zero cleavage. At her surprise engagement my other stepson's wife wore a backless and low cut dress and the bride to be was NOT happy. I'm comfortable with the choice, just wasn't sure about a belt and shoes.

I would say no belt – the dress has enough going on on it’s own. And I would opt for black shoes, especially for a winter wedding. It’s a gorgeous color dress! I am loving the return of velvet this year!

Pretty dress, Laura! I vote for black shoes and if you do a belt only a thin one to add a little more definition, if you want it but doesn’t seem necessary.

Me too! I love velvet. I generally hate green, but I did like this shade, and I thought for a wedding two days after Thanksgiving it would be appropriate.

That’s what I thought! I think a thin one might help for that. And maybe something not too jeweled/blinged-out.

The dress is really pretty. I think if the wedding is so close to Thanksgiving, you could try a bronze color shoe to give it more of a fall feel.

I don't think it needs a belt, but once you have the dress, put it on and take stock of how the skirt falls when you're walking, sitting, etc. since it's split. I've had some issues with that in the past where I've felt more comfortable pinning it so it wouldn't split too high.
