Mother Of the Bride Dress

Elisa, on February 25, 2020 at 12:26 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 6

My mom is freaking out a bit and I'm trying to figure out whether or not it's with reason and if I should try to take some action at my bridal boutique. (Not legal action, just like..."what is going on, I'm concerned about this" action).

My mom found her dress at the same bridal boutique I purchased my wedding dress at. She ordered her dress on October 10th I believe. We're a few days away from it being March, and her dress still hasn't come in yet. She didn't order anything fancy or extravagant--it's just a navy blue dress from Jovani (I believe exact design is Jovani 59993).

So, my mom's getting nervous because my wedding is in about 2 months. (It's the first weekend of May) and she is expecting to need alterations. My first fitting is the first weekend in March, and we both tried to order our dresses in advance so that we could do our first dress fittings together. When we ordered her dress, our bridal consultant said we ordered it with more than enough time.

My mom called to check in last month and they said they would have it at the end of the month. They didn't have it...and said it would now be here the end of this month. She still hasn't received word about it. What's making me a little annoyed is that when I go the Jovani site, it says if I order the dress it can get mailed to me in about 2 weeks. My mom put a deposit down...(or she actually might have paid for the dress in full, I can't remember) so shouldn't this have been here a while ago? When my mom spoke to them they made it sound like they had to reach out and talk to the designer, but this brand is sold at like 40 stores near me lol. It's not like theyre suddenly running low or the brand's designs are "rare."

What should I do? Is this normal? Should I try to get my mom's money back and look for the dress elsewhere? Her freaking out is stressing me out and given its getting closer to the actual date & I'm getting a little inundated with stress. I just want this resolved.

Thanks!

You shouldn't do anything. It's your mom's dress and she purchased it, she should be the one handling the communication.

If I were you I would wait until the end of the month. If the dress isn’t in, then I would have your mom ask for her money back and order the dress online (if she would be able to return the online order, just in case).

If your mom is asking you for help then I would help her. Maybe try calling the store and ask them about it. Maybe ask also where its manufactured.

I like pp idea of seeing what the online return policy is for the dress so if you could return it for a refund then just do that in case

Can you order one online thats returnable as a backup. That's a really long-time for a MOB dress. I'd go directly to the store with your mom and figure out what's going on and let them know you can order elsewhere if they cant get it.

There has been a lot of delays with the coronavirus, this could be the cause. I would have your mom call back and ask when the dress will be in and what their plan is if the dress is not in on time. Ie refund, dress of the rack at a discount etc.
