Mother of the bride dress

Susan, on May 6, 2019 at 10:07 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 11
I live in NYC and I have bought 3 dresses that I thought I liked but have returned them all. I find that the mob dresses are muted colors that I don't look good in. It's hard to get a bright color like red or royal blue. ANd our Lord and Taylor closed down which had a large selection of dresses. Macy's and Bloomingdales didn't have any. If anyone knows a small store that is reasonably priced, I would appreciate it. Thanks.

Are you the mother of the bride. If not ask what she is thinkinig. Maybe try just formal dresses and not mother of the bride dresses.

Gaaah, I miss Lord and Taylor so much. Try Adrianna Papell’s site or Dillard’s, which has a huge dress selection. My mom is wearing a dress I designed, which will come in navy and red and will be on sale May 15 at bowandknot.com My FMIL had great luck on eShakti, where you can customize your dress (different neckline, sleeve, and dress length options available) as well as the measurements. Their dresses unfortunately don’t have a lot of bling, if you’re interested in that, but they are quite pretty.

If if you have free time, there are a lot of wholesale dress stores on 37th and 38th between 6th and 8th that might have sample sales open to the public as well.

Thanks a lot. Have you heard of New York Dress? It's over there and got good reviews. I have an appointment there.

Have you only been looking at "mother of the bride/groom" dresses? My FMIL just bought a nice and bright colored dress at Macy's (in NJ). It was just in the evening gown section and not the bridal section. I would also check out Century 21. I know the Union Square location closed, but they have several others throughout the area.

Yes, I’ve heard of them! One of my first jobs in the fashion industry was down the hall from them. Their office was basically just a warehouse, that’s cool that they have a showroom now. They have a huge selection, but if for some reason they don’t have something you like, check out the stores on the ground floor in that neighborhood. As another poster said, Burlington has some formalwear out because it’s prom season, and Century 21 (both downtown and on the UWS) always has a good rotating selection.
