Mother of the bride dress vs. Bridesmaid dresses

Ok here is the story: I jest blew up at my mom because she is saying that the mother of the bride dress has to be the same length as the brides maid dresses. I do not want to put any restrictions on my girls and what they wear. Yes I know it was bad to blow up and I did apologies. But I have never heard that the dresses have to be the same length. Any impute?

No, they don't have to be the same length. The length of the mother's dress typically depends on the formality of the wedding.

It really doesn't matter. If all of your girls are wearing different length dresses she won't be able to match it anyway so just let her wear what she wants.
ETA: I'm glad you realize that it was wrong to blow up at her. This is such a small thing in the long run.

MOB and my only bridesmaid will both be in long gowns, but I don't recall there being a requirement. Our wedding is going to be fairly formal, so it just made sense.
Also how many chances do you get in life to wear a gown?

BMs and mothers will be in long dresses for mine, but I really don't think that it matters too much.

It doesn't matter! My moms dress color matches my bridesmaids. I told my mom that she won't be in pictures next to my girls! And my mom looks absolutely gorgeous!!!! But to each their own

I recall reading something that it does look a bit better in photos in MOB and MOG have matching lengths (style, color is up to them), but I've only heard of the mothers coordinating with each other- not mothers coordinating with BP necessarily.
