I would say absolutely not. It's close to white and looks very bridal with all the beading and sparkle. Is your mom the type to respect your wishes, or is she just going to wear this no matter how you feel?

If that's true then you have to consider, is this dress fancier than yours? And does it look more silver in real life? A mom in a metallic gown is fine, in theory, but to me this dress crosses a line.

No, she doesn't have to match them. In some social circles, it's not acceptable to tell the parents what color to wear. In others (including every wedding I've ever been to), the mother of the bride and groom coordinate somewhat. This is especially true if you have siblings in your wedding party, since mom will be in photos with them.

I always recommend this guide that suggests colors. You can show it to her, even if she doesn't get her dress from David's Bridal: https://www.davidsbridal.com/Content_StyleandFashionGuide_styleguidemobcoordinator

You say your dress will be red. Are you from a culture where a bride in red is the norm? I only ask because if I was at a typical western style wedding, my eyes would be drawn to the woman in white because white = bride. But if you're of a culture where the bride is typically in red, and you're in red, it may not be that much of an issue because their eyes will be going towards the woman in red.

Nope I just want my dress to be red, this really won’t a traditional wedding when it comes to me being in white

Can you use the excuse of you don't want to mix metallics? If you could choose what colors would you be comfortable with her, from the colors you mentioned I feel like a nice dusty rose color would complement your dress and the gold bridesmaids dresses well.

In that case, yeah, I wouldn't want her in that dress. It's just natural for your guests to gravitate towards the white dress. Of course they'll know you're the bride, but it can be hard to shake the subconscious white=bride mentality. A cream, or maybe a navy or even a maroon/burgundy to match you, but *not* match you

The “no white” rule for guests, including parents, means “does the dress look like it will be mistaken as a wedding dress?”. The dress in the original picture with zero context looks like a wedding dress. Opt for a color that doesn’t photograph white so stay away from all pastels.

My mom’s dress is pretty much the same color as that… I’m not thrilled about it but for me, it’s not worth the argument. I know everyone will be looking at me regardless and they may give her weird looks but whatever. Her friend and the saleswoman both thought it was fine for her to wear.
If you’re really uncomfortable with her wearing it, then say something. But you’re the bride so all eyes will be on you. Since you’re wearing red I don’t think guests will expect anything else traditional.

The silver dress looks fine to me. Silver is a pretty popular color for mothers to wear for weddings. And it's not like you are wearing white or ivory.

Tell Mom your dress is more old hollywood glamour and when standing next to you, the silver dress will look like prom. Maybe not exactly, but that should stop her because it's clearly vintage bridal in style and a bit risque.
