Mother and Mother in Law

Generally, if you invite people to do something, you're hosting an event so I'd expect you to pay. If, instead, you say, "hey, what do you think of us all getting together and doing something like a paint & sip? It costs $40 per person...." The second option gives me a heads up that if I want to attend, it's going to cost me. It sounds like she's already invited them, so I'd encourage her to pay for the tickets. If they offer to pay her back, it sounds like she'd appreciate it and can accept, but if I were her, I wouldn't ask.

Congrats to your sister! I think if she doesn't want to cover the ticket cost make it more of a suggestion than an invitation. Something along the lines of I d love us all to be able to get together and do something fun, what about Paint w a Twist it costs xx a person let me know if you d be interested and what your availability. Fun idea though!
