IOUs for photographs/albums. They aren't really "stuff" people. Most people recommend shopping for them like it's their birthday.

I got my mom a necklace and my dad a watch. They both probably won't wear it in the day of because they already have everything picked out, but it is a nice little token from the day.

It will sound weird but my FH wanted to give them a soundbar for our entertainment system. Not very sentimental but we each wrote really nice words on a card. My mom actually jumped with excitement and hugged him because she was thinking about getting one. Yeah, we are all weird. I'm trying to find something sentimental to give his mother because that is the type of stuff she likes. I'll wait until his dad actually books his flight to worry about him. Yeah, that's a thing-flaky father from the time he was a young boy. I swear I'll be furious if he let's him down again. He didnt expect him to come and told me not to push but a close friend of his Dad so "oh, we are both coming" and so now my FH is excited and its healing for them. Then he tries to make some excuse. He didnt come to his first wedding. I dont think he will want to speak to him if he backs out. I made sure his dads friend knows all of this behind the scenes to make sure his dad shows. A man needs his father at certain points in his life-getting married is one of them. Sorry, rant on a completely unrelated question. I'm tired. Lol

I bought my moms dress and jewelry for the wedding day. And giving her a personalized hankie, robe and bag the night before. My FWs Mom I got her a personalized leather art supply satchel for travel to her art classes. My dad I got a personalized frame and socks that day “for an important walk” and our wedding date.

What? I didn't even know this was a thing. Is that primarily if your parents are paying for the wedding or even if they aren't?

Yes this is a thing, it's known as a father of the bride gift or mother of the bride gift, etc. It's just a way to show your appreciation on such a special day. I'm not sure if it matters if your parents are paying for everything, even if mine weren't id still get them something.

Aside from the traditional pictures afterward ( albums) we did not do parent gifts. We let them know we love them and appreciate them, with gifts, on their anniversary, on mother's day and father's day, and on their birthdays. And on major holidays. Gifts to parents at wedding time just for being parents , are a new trend, not a traditional thing. Like presents between B and G, BM proposals gifts, getting ready gifts, little gifts to vendors, every time you turn around, buy more gifts, it has gotten ridiculous. All relatively new, heavily promoted by the industry. We gave letters of thanks where due, and one major individual gift just before the wedding to each attendant. All that is traditional. No more .

Yep. We knew they would want framed pictures and an album, so we told them that when we get the pictures back we will print them whatever photos they choose and create a shutterfly photo album.
