Motg-requested dress

Megan, on October 1, 2019 at 5:48 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 17
Hi all!! Just trying to get some opinions on this before I respond to my FMIL about the dress request she just sent me. I don’t like it for the color but I wanted to see if it’s me or I’m “allowed” to put my foot down.

I just want to start by saying that both my mom and my fiancé’s mother asked me what colors I wanted them to wear. I literally said “I don’t care as long as it’s not anywhere near my dress. Maybe you can do something that looks nice with the BM & GM colors” My mother got navy (matches with the guys & its her fav color to wear).

FMIL asked me to go shopping with her, which I was ecstatic about, to find her dress. I was hoping she would go for a pinkish or purple as they would go really well with the colors. I explained all of this.

Then she sends me a pic of this dress. Wants to buy it for the wedding. My dress is attached for references.

Am I being crazy? I just don’t want someone in my family wearing the same color as me, especially when I’m already not in white.

I’m honestly thrilled that she’s like taking the time to online shop and is getting excited about this and really don’t want to burst her bubble but I honestly just don’t want her to wear that. She can be very sensitive though so it’s like............. I don’t know what to say.

Thanks in advance for any advice you can provide!

I don't think the colors are exact or close but I would tell her that I love the dress is it possible to get in another color as that one is a little too close to the color your wearing!

The color isn't even close to your dress and is a super traditional mother of the bride/groom color. I don't see any issue.

First let me say that I love your dress. I understand where your coming from and while the doors aren’t the same and it is a traditional MOG dress I would personally love it if she wore a different color. Like the PP said tell her you love it and maybe suggest another color option for her

I think the dress she picked is quite matronly and perfect for a mother of the bride/groom. Her's is more of a gray while yours is more of a blush. I don't see an issue. People are going to show up with lighter colors and it doesn't look like a wedding dress.

Her dress looks like a light purple/grey..yours looks blush..from my screen at least. If you wanted to have her get purple or pink anyway it looks like a good fit to your vision. Also..i think a pinkish dress would be closer to yours. I don't think her dress will take away from you in any way.

I don't think her dress is similar to yours at all. That being said, if the "formality" of a full length gown with sparkles and lace is what's bothering you, I can understand that especially if you aren't having a black tie wedding. The dress my FMIL wanted to wear basically looked like a wedding dress (SUPER light gray, floor length form fitting with a jeweled belt and straps).

I don’t like the color. It’s not that it’s identical... but just a bit too close. There are hundreds of colors out there.

Since she asked your opinion id tell her you love the style but see if there is maybe a darker gray color. Or darker taupe.

Almost every dress my FMIL has sent has been the same color as my bridesmaids...while I have requested not matching lol. At the end of the day, it's really not that important to me as long as she isn't wearing white. If this color bothers you, let her know. She has a year to find the perfect dress in the perfect color. Good luck!

No one will confuse her for the 👰.

However, it does seem similar in color to your 👰👗.

    Congratulations and 🍀‼️

I don’t think the color is similar. But I would tell her that website is an Asian knockoff site and maybe suggest to go look with her in person?

I don't think the color is similar but is it maybe because it's also not super different either ?

I don't see any resemblance to your dress so I'm not really sure what the issue is.

She can wear whatever she wants - it doesn't look anything like your dress, or anything like a wedding dress. I don't know what the problem is.

I completely agree with you. I would tell her that the dress is fine if she can get it in a different color. If it upsets her, I'm sorry but that's just too bad. Say it nicely, but remember it's your day!
