Morning wedding food?

Sara, on January 3, 2019 at 1:48 AM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 11
Hello! My fiancé and I are considering a morning wedding (10 am) with a light brunch to follow. We’re keeping it simple, around 80 people which is mostly family and around 10 friends. Our first thought was donuts from an awesome friend of his, and an array of drinks—coffee, tea, juices (no mimosas, since it’s at a church!)
What other ceremony foods would be good for maybe a food station?
I was thinking bagels, with some veggies and fruits available. I don’t want people to leave with grumbly bellies!
Also, considering putting out drinks before so people can grab something for during the ceremony. What food can I put out with that wouldn’t be weird to snack on during a wedding?
My friend had a (weekday) morning wedding (11 am) and I really enjoyed having the rest of the day to help clean up, especially since we came from out of town and had a late night and super early morning.
Please share your thoughts and advice!

I'm not sure that I would want anyone eating during my ceremony, but maybe that's just me. Maybe you could do fruits and donuts or muffins for during the ceremony, items that don't require utensils and aren't going to be loud or disruptive to eat. Then for the reception you could provide warm options like a waffle or pancake bar, an omelette station, or a chicken and waffle station.

Are you not wanting a sit down breakfast? I think if you're having a ceremony and a reception then you might want something more substantial: omelettes, French toast, etc. I would be weary of actual eating during the ceremony as well. Smacking, food dropping, sipping/slurping. With 80 guests, I think you need a pretty good variety of breakfast foods in order to feed everybody.

Other than that, YES to breakfast! I love breakfast (and all food eating times, actually!)

I wanted to do a brunch wedding.
You can do an omelet or crepe station
and then waffles with lots of toppings (fruit, whipped cream, syrup)
    With sausage and bacon
and then something lighter for a lunch offering. chicken salad sandwiches or a grilled chicken Breast and salad.
Mimosas and bloody Mary’s at the bar.
I wouldn’t have food during the ceremony. And after i would offer more than doughnuts and bagels

I agree donuts are a good idea & coffee, tea & juices. I would offer soda too, since it'll be closer to lunch time. I would serve a full meal, so bagels and fruits and veggies are a good start but a lot more than that. Omelette station, pancakes or waffles, yogurt bar, sandwich station, carving meat (maybe ham or prime rib or chicken), lunch side dishes like pasta salad or regular salad or potato salad? I don't think people will snack during the ceremony so I'd just put out drinks before and no food.

Yay brunch! We're planning a brunch wedding for Fall 2019 and I can talk brunch menus for DAYS!

We are planning to do half an hour of coffee and tea service with music while our guests mill in before the ceremony (there's some space for this at our venue in the foyer next to the ceremony space.) Probably with some little apple cider donut holes and sliced fruit. That will be like 11-11:30 before our 1130-12 ceremony.

After the ceremony we're doing a brunch cocktail hour 12-1 with mimosas, bloody marys and a mix of appetizers -- sounds like booze is a no-go for you unless your reception is off-site?

For our sit-down brunch reception around 1 pm, we haven't set a menu with our caterer yet but we are looking at lots of what is mentioned above. Here is a list of some of the options we are looking at:
Stations: omelettes to order, crepes, waffles, pancakes, benedicts to orderMorning wedding food? 1
Buffet: quiche lorraine or frittata, roasted potatoes, green salad, sausages and bacon, lentil or white bean salad. Maybe a tofu scramble for our vegan friends.

We're having a traditional cake and some cookies with more fresh fruit with coffee, tea, and hot cider around 3pm.

Good point on maybe not eating during the ceremony, I'll probably stick to putting out coffee/tea/water before. I love the chicken and waffle idea! Giving people a savory option is important because I don't love sweet breakfast stuff.

My fiance was just considering donuts so I 100% agree we need to offer something more substantial!

I think waffles would be a big hit, I'll have to look into how to go about that! I also like the idea of adding some light lunch options. Unfortunately we can't do alcohol at our venue Smiley sad which is unfortunate because my fiance is a fan of "breakfast beers" lol

My friend did a parfait bar and I loved it! We'll definitely look into how to incorporate a more full meal.

Tofu scramble is a genius idea to accommodate vegans! I'm loving the brunch idea because it's easier to have foods that are friendly to all the allergies as well.
