Morganite or Moissanite?

Erin, on September 10, 2019 at 11:11 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 37
To start off with, I like both of them. My FH has decided to sell his motorcycle(I had nothing to do with that decision, I swear) because the risk isn’t worth it while our daughter is so young. He plans to use some of the money he gets from the sale to finally buy me a ring.

Im trying to decide whether I want a moissanite ring or a morganite ring.
moissanite pros: looks similar to diamond, super sparkly, almost as strong as diamond.

cons: moissanite stones used in rings are often WAAAAY bigger than I’m looking for (about .5 ct) and could easily veer into costume jewelry size.

morganite pros: the rings seem to look daintier to me, a more unique color choice, not as traditional looking.
Cons: I hate pink and even though I feel drawn to them now and I think they’re pretty now I’m worried I’ll start to hate the “pinkness” down the road.

could people perhaps share their rings if they have either, and tell me about your experiences with each? That’d be awesome!

My wedding band is moissanite! It's so pretty and sparkly. I was worried how it would look next to my diamond engagement ring, but it really doesn't look that much different. The main difference is moissanite reflects rainbow while diamond reflects clear.

Blush Moissanite. You can have your stone as small as you want! Mine’s .50
Morganite is part of the Beryl family along with Emerald, Aquamarine and some other stones that aren’t as common. You don’t have to have a pink color if you just want the look of the stone.

Your rings are beautiful Smiley smile I do know that moissanite is a lovely rainbow sparkle. I went to a store that sells them near me just to look at the stone and I thought I was gonna blind the guy helping me xD

Your ring is lovely Smiley smile I like how pear shaped morganite looks mostly for me. But in moissanite (and diamond) I prefer round or cushion, so I can’t even compare them equally because they’re such different shapes. I like the softness of morganite, emeralds are really bold, and I’m not that bold (plus I discovered that I actually hate what natural emeralds look like and only really like the lab-created ones xD) I’ll have to look into aquamarine though.

Hmm it really comes down to what color of stone you want, then you can look up which stones come in that color. You could do white Sapphire it’s not as sparkly as a diamond but neither is Morganite, it’s a pure white shine instead of rainbow like Moissanite

I looked at White sapphire and the woman at the store said it tends to cloud fairly quickly. But it’s definitely a good budget option, as is white topaz.

These are some examples of rings I like, the top one is technically a diamond but I’d bring a moissanite stone to have them put into it instead of buying a diamond, the 2nd is morganite but I worry it’s too pink, the 3rd is a rare pear shaped moissanite ring that I like but I’m worried it’s too big for my tiny size 4.5 finger xD I guess I just have too many options and I’m just confusing myself.

Here is a picture our photographer took. It's rose gold & morganite. I wanted something a little different yet still traditional.

I have a moissanite that, from what I've read, is between a comparable 1-1.25 ct. I wear size 7.5 for reference. I love mine so far. I have long fingers and wanted something that would suit them.

Your ring is beautiful. Have you had any issues with it? I’ve heard rose gold can be hard to work with sometimes and I will almost certainly have to get my ring resized (curse you stores only carrying down to a size 5 *shakes fist*). How has it held up for you? I have a bad habit of walking to close to walls and desks and stuff and am constantly whacking my hands on things unintentionally. I want to make sure I get a ring that can stand up to that kind of treatment xD

Your ring works really well on your finger Smiley smile. I have proportionately lengthed fingers that are really thin, so I don’t want anything huge but I want to be able to see it too (hence not wanting a diamond). I’ve tried pear shaped rings on when I visited stores for style ideas and I’ve liked how they look, and how they’re kinda different from what most people have, but I definitely realized I have to be extremely careful because Pear shapes stones can get really big (I’ve seen some that are 3-4 carats 😱) it’s encouraging to see that yours is a reasonable size xD

I have a Morganite stone and could not imagine having any other ring (it's just so gorgeous!)

Some Morganite stones are more "peach" than "pink" so depending on the one you find it may not remind you of pink.

This is mine, it is set in rose gold with halo of diamond accents.

Thank you! I haven't had any issues with it. I had to get mine resized as well(size 4). You can't even tell, & I'm extremely clumsy. I'm always hitting it on something 🤦 it's held up really well! I've had it since June 2018

I love my moisanite. Overall I am anti diamond, but I love the sparkle. I did also want big, and got 2 ct. It still looks great, and inline with my profession, as in we could have afforded a 2 ct diamond, so it doesn't look out of place.

So I have a moissanite ring- I love it!!! It’s so sparkly and a lot of people think my FH spent a good amount of money because it looks so similar to diamond, but he spent under 1,000 for it. I did have a morganite promise ring, but it
lacked the sparkle. I’m not to sure if it’s because of the quality of that ring or the stone itself. Attached is my moissanite engagement ring!

Thank you! I didn't want anything too big either... although I do think mine is on the bigger side. I LOVE pear shaped for the same reason - less common. And I was also terrified of the huge monsters that are out there in that shape. Etsy is where I got mine and with enough digging, you can find smaller ones. Mine i 6mm x 8mm and that was a common size but I looked at a few that were smaller as well. I drew the size of the stone out on paper, cut it, and laid it on my hand to be sure it wouldn't be too big or awkwardly sized before making my decision.

Also I saw you asking about rose gold - mine is in rose and, from what Ive read, its a more study gold because its mixed with copper - copper is a hard metal and therefore makes the gold more scratch and bend resistant. I knew I wanted to wear mine all the time so I went for 14 k rose (12 is available but its more of that fake pink color that Im not a fan of). I cant speak to the resizing part though...

That’s a really good idea, drawing it out. I just might do that before ordering anything just to be sure.

Speaking of Etsy, that’s where I’m looking as well since they have some nice looking rings in my price range, did you have a good experience? What shop did you use?

Your ring is beautiful, that’s definitely more of the color I’d be going for, a lot less pink. I’ve noticed they tend to look more PINK with white or yellow gold than they do with rose gold, which is interesting.
