Monogrammed Bridesmaid Gifts?

Elizabeth, on October 30, 2019 at 3:23 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 17

Hello,

I am putting together little bags for each of my girls (6 of them). So far I have my favorite lip gloss, nail polish, chocolate, and something uniquely them. I wanted to do one more larger item and was thinking about some kind of long sleeved clothing item (maybe a pull over sweatshirt, quarter zip, etc) that had their monogram on it. Is this a dumb idea? If you would want it, what style shirt do you think? Do you have any tips of where you bought it? My Dad is very handy and can help with the monogram part. It's not intended to be worn any specific time/event or anything I just thought it'd be a fun thing to own. Now I'm looking around and am no longer sure.

What do you think?

I don't think it's a dumb idea, especially if you know your girls. I personally wouldn't wear anything monogrammed, it's not really my thing. But if you know they like them, go for it! I think a sweatshirt would be nice.

The best advice I've ever seen about shopping for bridesmaid gifts is to shop like it's their birthday. If you think that your girls would like something like that, then go for it.

I like quarter zips, I wear them a lot to work. I think it just depends on the person! I like comfy sweatshirts too just to wear around the house. It would depend on how large the monogram is, I wouldn't wear a very large monogram outside but wouldn't care if it was on pajamas!

I love pullovers and comfy sweatshirts, but definitely wouldn't wear a monogrammed one. Agree with PP to shop like it's their birthday!

I am rethinking the monogrammed part! With that said I would sort of think it was weird if someone got me a plain sweater or sweatshirt to ask me to be in their bridal party. I think I'll come up with another "big" gift to finish it off instead.

    Thanks everyone!

I personally wouldn’t wear anything monogrammed unless it was a robe or pjs that I could wear at home. That being said you know your girls best and know whether they would wear it or not.

Cassie, this is what I was thinking. Something comfy they'll use that they may not wear out of the house. I'm working on getting my girls comfy pj's and just having their initials monogrammed on them. Or a fluffy robe - same concept. I got them each fuzzy slippers for getting ready the day-of and was thinking some soft, cozy sweatpants or pajama bottoms might be nice, too. It's turning into a whole outfit! LOL. But I figure at least they'll be comfy and they'll use them over and over again.

Elizabeth, I'm doing gift bags, too. I'm glad someone else is because I'm having trouble figuring out what sorts of swag to put in mine as well. Good luck!

Also, I avoided buying anything that said "bridesmaid" because it felt like a one-time-use sort of thing.

Yeah I am not a fan of the "bridesmaid" stuff.

Great idea on the pjs! Are you doing that as a "proposal" or as a thank you right before the wedding?

I "proposed" using the rose gold knot bracelets that said "I can't tie the knot without you" but I hand-made the cards I put them in and personalized them to each lady. My sister-in-law did the cutest thing for her proposal. She gave us each these little blue "tiffany" boxes and when you opened it there was a Ring Pop inside and it said, "He popped the question. Now it's my turn."

Yes, these PJ's will be part of their Thank You. We're actually doing a sleepover as part of our bachelorette party so I think the PJ's will work great for that. But they will also be great for day-of while we're getting ready and dancing to music and sipping mimosas.

I just remembered I *did* do one personalized thing already for each girl. I had post-its made for them with their monogram at the top and then attached a nice pen. Figured they'd be useful for notes throughout the day or to use at home/work. I had a $10 coupon from Vista Print and didn't know what to spend it on so before it expired I just ordered them on a whim and I got them for free. Pretty sweet and if they hate them Oh Well because they were free. (but I know they won't hate them LOL.)

I'm personally a huge monogram fan, so I'd love that kind of personalization! It definitely depends on what your girls love. If you're 100% sure they'd love monogram, I think getting the personalization is fine Smiley smile

I realize I just missed an important part of the post I quoted! I agree with you that it's probably a better gift for closer to the wedding!

If you want to give a jacket, shirt or sweater, fine. But don't put a monogram on it unless you know the person monograms lots of things. Lots of people, including me, hate it. Put a monogram on it, it will not even get worn once.

I am getting married in February and was also thinking of monogrammed sweatshirts for them to wear while getting ready. After reading the comments, I am now thinking that just a plain sweatshirt might be better because then they might wear it again.

Fun without the monogram. With it, I would never wear it. It is one of those things some people love, and others hate.
