Money Dance

After so many posts against honey funds is the money dance totally tacky? Please don't put me down for this. Our DJ has this as part of our reception & I felt hesitant about it but I figured since he does so many weddings this was normal.

I just think the whole idea is awkward. I would rather keep the party going rather than stopping it and awkwardly asking people for money to dance with me lol

My FSIL did it because it was on the DJs list too and I had to literally push FH (her brother) out there to dance with her. She asked if we were doing it and I said no. She said she would have taking it off the list because she didn't like standing out there and it was so awkward!

I feel it is tacky unless it is a cultural thing.

@Punkin that's super interesting! I have a shit ton of Slovak roots but my family isn't very in touch with them. I've always wanted to learn more.

"In some cultures, the money dance is appropriate as there is tradition and meaning (beyond just getting money) behind the ritual. However, if you are dancing just to get extra money for your honeymoon or whatever and there is no cultural relevance it is rude and tacky. I also find this insulting to cultures that have this tradition, since you are disregarding the meaning and symbolism of a practice for your own monetary gain."

I copied and pasted her response in case anyone didn't see it the first time because it is so fucking spot on and takes dollar dances a step further than just being tacky.

I had never heard of a money dance before and I am so glad that I haven't! I don't even bring money (or my purse) to weddings so I would feel so awkard just sitting there. I wouldn't want to do that to my guests!

If my DJ put this in my reception? I'd be finding another DJ, because it says a lot about his taste level.

@BeachDreams- With your permission, I absolutely will. You, of course, will always be properly credited.

FH and I are considering doing the money dance because it's tradition for our families.
