My Mom, who has refused to dress shop with me because she "isn't ready" has now picked a dress with an extremely similar look to mine.

My father, despite my gentle protest does not see an issue with it. Neither does my mother. I guess I have to be a bit of a jerk if I don't want this to happen. Or should I just let it go?

I personally don't think it will be an issue. I see what you mean by the necklines being similar, but hers is black and yours is truly a bridal gown. Even if people were in white, the bride stands out SO MUCH on her wedding day especially since there are veils, headpieces, bouquets, fancy shoes, fancy hair & makeup, etc. I wouldn't worry!

Sorry, but I don't understand what the issue is. The dresses don't look anything alike. The necklines are similar but that's it.

I don't see it as an issue. I think it's cute that she matches you. At least it's not white or bride looking.

I can kind of see why you are upset, the style does have similarity to yours but as other PPs said because of its color, it won't be an issue in terms of you standing out.

I can totally see the frustration since you as the bride definately want to stand out!!! you look amazing in that dress and you will definately have all eyes on you!!!! I think having the similar style is a way for your mom to be a part of the wedding as the mother of the bride but still make sure shes not taking the spotlight by having a black dress, I would be okay with her decision but it's your wedding and if it does bother you maybe just ask if she could look at other styles

Your mother’s dress doesn’t look the least bit bridal. I don’t understand why you’re upset.

I disagree with everyone else. In these pictures they look like the same dress in different colors. Your dress is very elegant and modern, without the typically bridal lace and tulle. Unfortunately, this makes the similarities with your mom's dress even more noticeable. I would fight her on this!

You’re the bride and you will be the center od attention. So no one will outshine you that day.

I think the necklines are very similar but I also think it is okay because she's your mom and thus a member of the bridal party and it's okay if the dresses are in the same "dress family" of sorts. I think what I really would have been upset about is her not going dress shopping with you! But everyone is different and it's your day so if you want her to pick a different dress she should respect that...not in a Bridezilla way. Just a mom making her daughter happy!!

I can definitely see the similarity in the dresses, and I also understand why you would be a bit annoyed by this. I guess it depends on just how much it bothers you whether you should fight her on it. I would ask myself, is this worth upsetting my mother about? And will this still bother me five years from now? If not, I would just let it go. For what it’s worth, it is a very popular neckline, so there’s a chance even a guest will wear something similar to the wedding. Also, will you be wearing a veil? Veils can change the look of a wedding dress soooooo much & would also make you stand out even more.

My mom picked a dress the same color as mine. I’m wearing off-white and sparkly. She’s wearing off-white sparkly.

Even though the cut of her dress isn’t bridal, I don’t want my mom wearing the same color and a sparkly dress like me on my wedding day.
