Mom as MOH?

Emily , on March 23, 2017 at 10:30 AM Posted in Planning 0 18

Hey guys! So I don't really have any close friends that I would want to have in my wedding party, so I am planning on having my mom as my only bridesmaid, and my FH is going to have his dad as his best man/only groomsman. Have any of you done this? I have talked to my mom about this many times, so she basically knows it is going to happen, but I still want to ask her and make it "official". I've seen a bunch of cute ideas on pinterest for asking sisters and bestfriends to be MOH, but I haven't seen anything for asking your mom! Any suggestions? Thanks Smiley smile

I'm having my mom and my best friend as MOH's actually and FH has his dad, I already have a gift for my bff (a locker with a pic of us and her kids) and for mom I ordered two necklaces (one for me), her's will say "where you lead" on one side and "always my best friend" on the other, mine says "I will follow" (we're both Gilmore Girls fans)

I have seen a dad as best man but not a mom as moh. Why not--what a lovely tribute Smiley smile

If you want to get her a card along the lines of "First my mom, now my friend, who else would I want by my side on my wedding day but you" kind of thing.

A pendant or a charm, flowers, a cupcake if you want but not necessary imo.

I think this is sweet. My mom is walking me down the aisle and will likely be wearing the same dress as my sister, who is my MOH. I'll also be honoring her during the ceremony.

As for the gift.. even though she's not my MOH, as sort of a thank you for being a part of our wedding gesture, I gave my mom a simple bracelet with 3 little bird charms on it. My father passed away and my mom always calls herself, my sister and I "the 3 little birds" (in reference to the Bob Marley song). My sister got a similar charm bracelet that says "MOH".

I don't think the gesture is necessary, but if you want to do something, something small but meaningful/personalized will go a long way.

I think there's nothing wrong with it. You don't need traditional "roles", you just need the people who mean the most to stand up there with you.

ETA sorry, didn't fully answer the question! (Not enough coffee). You could take a traditional "mother of the bride" gift and tweak it. Like, an embroidered handkerchief that says something about her standing with you.

My mom is my matron of honor! She and I are very close. I think it's a wonderful idea :-) You could just give her a nice gift with a card and ask her. I just took my mom aside one day and asked her, but I love the idea of doing something cute! You could even take her out to her favorite restaurant and ask! :-)

Great idea. Im having my 15 yr daughter walk me down aisle...but I also want her standing as my MOH so I'm just struggling with how to have her serve the two jobs. Does she just slide into MOH position after she walks me down aisle?

I dont have any close friends either, I actually started to get really depressed in the begining of planing this because my only best friend and I have drifted apart. But I had already asked her to be my MOH and she of course said yes but she never has time to help me with planning and when we went dress shopping she was on the phone the entire freaking time...I ended up asking My sister to be my matron of honor as well because I have a feeling my "bestfriend" wont show. I considered my mom as well. My FI is having his dad as his best man!

@Andrea I totally get that!! I have plenty of "bestfriends" that are trying to act like they want to do stuff for me, but have bailed on me many times in the past, I can't count on them!! My 2 TRUE friends don't live anywhere near me so it would be difficult to work anything out with them Smiley sad Good thing you can always count on your mom and sister Smiley smile
