Mojito as signature drink?

6-1-18, on January 18, 2018 at 11:30 AM Posted in Planning 0 12
Our venue gave us a list of signature drinks but I'm not sure if those were just suggestions... We provide the liquor and they do the mixers. I want a mojito which isn't on their list, and from my understanding signatures are simple, pre-mixed, and poured from jugs. If we provided mint extract for them to mix in instead of real leaves to muddle, do you think they'd do it? Would it even taste like a real mojito?

Also, how much alcohol should we buy for two signature drinks? We're also having 3 beer and 3 wine options and we're having about 30 adults and it will be afternoon.

How would we know? Ask your venue. Frankly, unless they are making the mojito fresh, I wouldn't have it.

There are online calculators such as https://www.evite.com/pages/party/drink-calculator to figure out what to buy.

As others have said you should definitely talk to your venue, but i would also venture a hard no to the mint extract idea. mint extract tastes really different than the real thing, and i don't think it would work.

Mint extract is not the same as fresh mint. You might be able to make it work but it won't taste the same. Talk to your venue about it.

Damn. Our other signature drink is a whiskey and coke. We may do amaretto & dr. Pepper with it if not a mojito.

Mojitos are hard to do well. Esp for a large crowd, I would pass and I love them too!

You should ask your venue if the list they provided was the list of the only signature drinks they will do or if it was just a list of popular choices/suggestions. Ask if they would be willing to do a mojito.

For us, our venue was fine with any signature drink choice so long as 1) the ingredients involved were included in our open bar package and 2) they had or could easily procure the non-alcoholic mixers. Different venues may handle this differently, though, so the only way to get the right answer to your question is to simply ask your venue.

You venue may also be able to provide you with the recommended quantities of each liquor needed for your signature drinks for your size crowd.

You could try making a mojito at home with mint extract and see how it tastes. I agree that it probably wouldn't be as good, but you never know! What about something like a moscow mule? Those are pretty popular right now and would probably be easier to make in bulk. I would definitely do something with a light liquor since your other cocktail is with whiskey.

If it's not freshly muddled it just doesn't taste the same, sorry! If you're already doing whiskey and coke I would do a white liquor drink for your second one, like a vodka cranberry or white rum punch.

I wouldn't want whiskey and Coke premixed either! The Coke would go flat.

Hard no to the mint extract.

I doubt that would be premixed since it's only 2 ingredients.

The reason why a lot of places may hesitate to add a mojito as a signature drink is that if done right they tend to take a while and are kind of a pain to make. While you may be able to get a 'yes' from your venue to a mojito, I still wouldn't recommend it, though, as making a mojito for every other person may slow down service, and make for a grumpy bartender. If it were me I would stick to something more simple as my signature drink and order a mojito the next time I'm at a bar.
