MOG dress...that big of a deal?

So my fiancé's mom keeps asking me what I want her to wear at the wedding. My bridesmaids are wearing a very pale pink dress and the groomsmen are wearing black tuxes. Anyways, I want my mom to wear gold and was hoping that my fiancé's mom would also wear gold or maybe a light pink to compliment the bridesmaids.

However, she is telling me she MUST wear a dark color because pink or gold make her look pale. She suggested dark pink or navy. I just can't see dark pink looking good and I think navy would look strange next to the black tuxes. I suggested grey and she shot it down.

Any suggestions on how to handle this topic with her? Or should I just let it go and tell her to wear whatever she wants. I just don't want it look weird in pictures!

Both my mother and my FMIL have asked me what colors they should wear. I've told them to wear whatever they feel good in and comfortable in. Mom came back with "what if I wear jeans?" I told her if that's what makes her feel pretty and comfortable, then go for it. She'd never do that, but truly, I everyone to feel good in what they are wearing.

It sounds like she's asking you because she's not comfortable in the colors you chose and wants you to sign off on her wearing something else. I definitely think she should wear whatever she wants and whatever she feels beautiful in, this is not something you need to control.

Let her wear whatever color she wants to. She knows what your colors are and can pick something to coordinate if that's what she wants. My bridesmaids are wearing navy and his groomsmen are wearing black though so I clearly don't think navy would look bad next to a black tux.

My MIL told me all my wedding colors washed her out and there was no way she would wear black to a wedding. I honestly didn't care what color she chose. She kept asking me my colors and poo pooing them. Let her wear what she wants. She's not going to be in a ton of the photos anyway. Ps my MIL wore black after all.

You need to let this go. The bride does not control the colors that the mothers wear. Navy or dark pink will look fine.

Let her wear what she wants... you won't remember in a year and she will be in a few photos, where there will most likely be other people not in your color scheme.

Thanks ladies! I definitely see the viewpoint that she is uncomfortable with my color scheme and is basically just asking permission to break it. I think I'm going to just tell her that navy is fine. And honestly, if it does look weird in pictures, it will probably bother her a lot more than it will bother me.

Honestly, blush and gold/champagne don't look good on many people. Unless I'm tan (summer or tanning bed or spray tan) I look totally washed out in those colors. I think having her wear dark pink or black would be fine. You don't want her to clash, but at the same time - your mothers will be in VERY FEW pictures.

No one will be looking at her - let her wear whatever she wants! My future MIL is amazing - my FH first wife wouldn't even let her wear the shoes she bought - you don't want to start ww3 before the wedding - don't let this one detail stress you out!

Let her wear what she wants. I think its overstepping anytime a bride wants to dictate what their parents or in laws should wear, you can only really get away with that for the wedding party.

Gotta learn to pick your battles. This is not worth all the bs it will cause. Let her wear what she wants.

Don't worry about pictures....think about your future mother in law and how she feels. She wants to feel beautiful on your special day - remember her son is getting married! What special day. The pictures wont be ruined, sometimes if everyone wears the same colors the pictures don't turn at as good anyway. It's too matchy-matchy and looks forced...like prom.

So I'm probably going to get it for this but here it goes. My mother and I have always been straight shooters with each other, if my mom doesn't like something I'm wearing instead of going out in public she's like umm that is ugly don't wear it and vice versa. My mother called me and was like oh I found my dress for your wedding. I looked at it and I hated it, all I told her was mom maybe you should find a dress more you're age. So now we're on the hunt for another one. My mother is 52 years old, but she picked this out and it's for more a grandma of the bride/groom I'm sorry.

I was spending a lot of time fretting what MOB and MOG should wear. In the end I think that I am just going to make sure they aren't in the same colour and that they aren't in the same colour as the BMs. Beyond that, they really aren't in majority of the photos. I am sure she will be able to pick something she will look great in and will compliment your colours.

My FH's mom also got weird about the dress. She kept asking me what I want her to wear and what color, etc.. And I really don't care! Whatever she's comfy in!

I really don't think the color matters as long as they aren't in white or trying to look like a bridesmaid. Our colors are plum with some pops of light orange and the guys will be wearing brown vests and my mom wants to wear navy or a dark grey and FMIL was looking at a baby blue dress and pink dress. I'm not concerned with how their dress colors will look next to our wedding colors.

I don't think the color matters that much. She probably won't be in any pictures with your bridesmaids or the groomsmen. But even so, I would let her choose.

I actually had the opposite problem with my FMIL. She basically wanted me to pick out her dress, which I was not comfortable with at all. I wanted her to be comfortable in it, and I didn't want to pick something that she didn't like. I let my bridesmaids pick their own dresses! She finally found a dress, but texted me a picture of every dress she tried and the available color swatches each time. Lol
