Modesty panel on plunging v neck? Using the train?

Emily, on February 8, 2021 at 9:20 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 17
I’ve been trying on dresses at home due to covid and surprisingly I think I’ve found a dress I absolutely love, but the neckline is just a liiiittle too deep for my taste as we will be getting married in a church. A drawback of not being in the store is I have a million questions and no one to ask.

Would I be able to use some of the train or hem (assuming there’s some left over) to create a little modestly panel, or does that completely ruin the vibe of the dress? How much does an alteration like this typically cost? Modesty panel on plunging v neck? Using the train? 1

I actually love the plunge style! But yes, you should be able to take the extra material from the dress and add a little more coverage so it ends up being more of your style.

I agree with the comment above, I love the plunging neckline! You could definetely use the extra fabric but it does change the design. If you want it to be less revealing but still have the illusion you could use a skin tone mesh so it still seems deep but it blures out your breasts a little.

I feel like people add coverage all the time, especially for church weddings! I think I would think about a sheer material with this dress instead of taking material from the dress though. The patterns not lining up exactly may clash a bit, but I'm sure it can be done if that's what you choose to do.

I love the plunge! But yes any alterations place can make you a "patch" for it if you would like.

My alterations at David’s bridal were $850 however for my second dress I had the same alterations done at a local mom and pop store and it was $160 - both dresses got hemmed and sleeves shortened. As for the panel it’s hard to tell without seeing the whole dress. Using the hem scraps is a great idea. I’m 5’2” plus 4” heels. I had about 5” in length cut off

Definitely sounds like an independent seamstress is the way to go. Here are some pics of the whole dress. No clue how much I’d have taken off I’m 5’7 and am planning on wearing no heel. The V does seem deeper on this model than on me maybe because my chest is larger idk

I personally LOVE the full plunge! The train overlay kind of takes away from the dress. If you’re wanting to be more modest, I would have someone sew in the train to the inside in a more subtle way - maybe add more fabric to the plunge on the inside to look more natural

I think you should do whatever would make you feel more comfortable! I think they would look great either way, and i don't think think the cover would ruin the style or vibe of the dress. I didn't get that done exactly to my dress, but my alterations were about $200 for a hem, padding in the top, everything taken in, and lining under my straps (they are covered in gems) I wouldn't think it would be that much of an extra charge just to add that. Smiley smile Beautiful dress!

I love the plunge too 😭 I just wonder if they could do a small, removable panel on the inside. I'm a little bustier than I think this pic may make it seem and I just don't want to seem inappropriate or sloppy. I think I’d just like to be a little more covered up for the church ceremony (and I’m slightly worried about my FMIL)

A seamstress can easily find material for you. No need to worry about hem scraps.

I agree with PP that a plain panel may be best, since the pattern doesn't match up.
If you want a removable panel, they can put little buttons on the inside. I've worn cheap store bought removable panels, and they to tend to bunch up.
I'd have the panel sewn in or have the seamstress make you an actual bralette out of the sheer material so you can layer it underneath for coverage, and take it off if you want after the ceremony

For a church wedding, a modesty panel will be required. Talk to a local independent seamstress on Yelp to see what they can do.

Beautiful! If they can’t use pieces of the train could they use a flesh colored piece of fabric to make it more modest or at least seem modest?

It looks like there is already a nude mesh panel on the dress, no? I would leave it as is. I think it is really pretty with the plunging neckline and the nude mesh prevents it from being "too much".

My seamstress was actually able to close the plunge in my dress a bit without using any additional material.

I personally love the plunging neckline! But I could understand wanting to be more modest if you’re getting married in a church, so either option will be beautiful. I’dlook into seeing it f your church would allow the plunge though

Do you have any photos of how the alterations turned out? I am interested in more coverage and have a hard time envisioning how modifying a deep plunge neckline would look
