Modeling chocolate vs fondant

Has anybody tried modeling chocolate on cake instead of fondant? If so how did it hold up? I would really like to have modeling chocolate however I've never had it on cake and wasn't sure how it would hold up being left out for a few hours.

    I've never personally tasted modeling chocolate, but fondant doesn't have to taste bad and I feel like you're able to do more with it design wise. Modeling chocolate is kind of heavy and used more for figures or molds. It also has to be hand molded and smoothed over and over to be nice looking and the idea of hands rubbing all over it gives me the heebie jeebies because... Hands.
