Mocktail ideas for dry wedding?

Alexa, on July 26, 2019 at 7:53 AM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 11

Hi everyone!

I want to preface this by saying that my fiance and I are having a dry wedding this September. I know it is a touchy subject on here, but PLEASE do not use this post to try to tell us that it is a bad idea. Its a long story that I dont really want to get into.

The kind of good news is that (1) We are already having a brunch/lunch reception and (2) The reception is only scheduled for 2.5 hours.

Right now, we have coffee, tea, soda, juice, and water. We are having the reception in a hotel, and we have asked the contact there if we could have a bartender and serve a few different types of mocktails/virgin drinks.

We are allowed to choose 4 of these options:

-Bloody Mary (regular but omit alcohol)

-Mimosa (sparkling water/ginger ale, orange juice)

-Bellini (peach nectar, sparkling cider)

-Shirly Temple (ginger ale, grenadine, cherry)

-Sweet Sunrise (orange juice, grenadine)

-Mojito (tonic/club soda, sugar syrup, lime juice, mint)

-French 75 (tonic/club soda, lemon juice, lemon bitters)

Which would you choose? Which do you think would be most enjoyed?

Thank you!

I would skip the mocktails entirely. Having a bartender at a dry wedding is confusing for guests. If it's really important to you, I think a Shirley Temple, sweet sunrise, mimosa, and bloody Mary would appeal to the most guests.

I agree with PP. Having a bar at all might be a little confusing, unless you’ve made it very explicit that there will be no alcohol beforehand. That said, virgin Shirley Temples are a common drink choice. I love a good bellini/mimosa myself.

Cute! I think the mimosa is fine if it is gingerale, but the sparkling water would water it down, so that's my concern. (I have totally done it before and it's not great!)

    Bellini sounds great!

I would keep a balance: only do 1 orange juice mocktail, 1 grenadine mocktail, then maybe the two tonic water ones for something not quite as sweet.
I've never had a bloody Mary, but that much tomato juice without alcohol does not personally sound appealing -- I also don't know many who do order them, though?

As an alternative to mocktails, could you just do a punch, which would be like a giant vat of one of these mocktails?

For a brunch I'd prefer the mimosa and bellini. Shirley Temple is a popular non-alcoholic drink.

I don't drink for medical reasons so I can tell you mojito and sweet sunrise will be delicious.
Mimosa is a typical drink and Shirley temple is a classic as well.

I would do: Mojoitos, French 75 & mimosa.

I personally wouldn't do the Bloody Mary - w/o vodka it's just a V8 (or at least to me).

If you have kids, I would the Shirley Temple - kids love these.

    Thank you!

I should clarify that a large number of our guests do not drink and are "against" drinking from a religious standpoint. The other guests know that we are having a dry wedding.

Many people mentioned that mocktails would be a nice option.

I would choose the bellini, shirly temple, mojito, and french 75. I think those are fanciest. A lot of people despise bloody marys to begin with and I am afraid without the alcohol it makes it worse and more unappealing for those people.

I love a virgin bloody Mary. It's spicy and flavorful. It is NOT just tomato juice. The Bellini, French 75, and Shirley Temple also sound good. The whole point of a mimosa is having the champagne. Ginger ale wont be a suitable substitute.
