MOB & MOG Dress Colors

Ciara, on August 24, 2021 at 1:37 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 9
I’m having a hard time picking out what color dress my mom and FMIL should wear for our wedding. It will be a winter wedding and our colors are burgundy and navy with gold accents. The bridesmaids will be wearing burgundy floor length dresses and I’d rather my mom and FMIL not wear burgundy. Thank you!

You don't need to pick out their colors. They just need to match the formality of the event. If you don't want them to wear burgundy, as you don't want them to match the bridesmaids, I would just mention that and leave the rest of the decision up to them.

What about asking them to wear gold or even navy? Technically they don't have to match the wedding colors (I think it looks better in pictures when they do though)

At every wedding I ever went to, it was obvious the moms coordinated with the wedding colors. I recommend looking over this guide for ideas about what mom can wear. It may help them, even if they're not getting their outfit from David's Bridal:

They don't need to be coordinated. My bridesmaid will also be in burgundy and I'm having a fall wedding. I told my mom and FMIL that they should stick to darker colors or jewel tones like plum, emerald, navy, black. I think my FMIL will be wearing Navy, my mom said she wants to wear plum but who knows lol

Thank y’all so much! I just wanted to get some ideas because both my mom and FMIL have already asked what color we would prefer them to get before they start looking around.

My mom and fmil asked what color I wanted them in and I left it up to them. I told them to choose their colors. Not the bridesmaid colors and I didn’t want them in the same color but other than that I left it up to them. My mom chose her color first then my fmil

I agree they don't need to be coordinated although navy would look nice!

What I learned after my mum and I went shopping together ... to be honest it was remarkably difficult to find something that we both could tolerate, that fitted my mum well (she has scoliosis and like all of us, areas she'd prefer not to highlight), that suited the formality of the event and the expected weather. Of course, my mum is a bit older (mid 70s) so it did make things a bit harder.

Navy was the easiest colour in the end, and what my mum ended up buying, even though she actually didn't want navy, as she'd worn that to my sister's wedding.

The idea of having to restrict the search to a specific colour sounds like it would make this SUPER hard - but that isn't something I realised the extent of, before I went with my mum.

I think mob and movie coordinating is so cute! Pick an accent color for each of them. Our colors are blush pick and forest green and my mom is wearing mauve and his mom will wear light green. So if gold is an accent, then maybe gold

You don’t pick the dress colors for them, they pick their own dresses.
