Mob dress

Monique, on August 10, 2019 at 5:32 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 19
What color is your mom wearing? My mom and I chose to have her wear red because it is a holiday wedding and she would be able to wear the dress again come Christmas. It matched our color pallet as well. However, I was told by a “friend” that red is a major no no for weddings and that she would never let her mom wear that color. She also told me it needed to be changed or people would talk. Is this true? Does it matter? I went To a wedding recently where the mom was wearing white. We did mention the no white at a wedding when talking amongst ourselves but no one said anything bad about it. Please let me know your thoughts.

I think the red will be great. I have seen the thing about wearing red only on here and only recently, but I think it’s fine.

I've always heard no white, but never any other call before. Did she give a reasoning? That's really odd to me, but maybe I'm missing something.

That dress is lovely. I have heard the red myth (because it allegedly distracts from the bride since it’s such a bold color) and I think it’s silly. I don’t think anyone would talk about your mother’s color choice. The dress is beautiful and you shouldn’t feel pressured into changing it.

Oh gosh no girl, your “friend” is just creating drama or misinformed. I wouldn’t want my mom to wear red because it clashes with my colors, that is the ONLY reason. I have never heard a mom shouldn’t wear red 🙄 It’s what you want, it’s what she’s wants, it’s your wedding. Your mom should 100% wear that dress 💗

I've never heard of red being a no-no specifically for weddings. However, we did have one guest ask in advance if she could wear red to our wedding. She was worried I'd wear a traditional Chinese dress (which, for the bride, would be red).

I’ve read somewhere that red is a no no, possibly because people are afraid it takes the attention away from the bride, but if your mom loves the dress and you’re totally on board with it, she should wear it! My mom is going to wear a burgundy dress because it is in my wedding palette, it is not the bridesmaids’ dress color, and reds look wonderful on her. 💕

Cultural reasons are the only thing I can think of that would/should keep her from wearing red. If those cultural reasons don't apply to you or most of your guests, I would say she should wear that beautiful red dress! My mom is wearing navy, MOG wearing purple, and SMOG is wearing gray.

Personally I'm not a huge fan of red at weddings, but I've never heard of it being taboo.

I have heard of the rule to not wear red to a wedding but I think it is more old school now. I think the premise behind it is that red is such a show-stopping color and is often seen as sexy so a woman should not wear that color to a wedding or it would take the attention away from the bride. I think that dress is beautiful and see no reason why your mom shouldn't wear it.

I’ve always heard just no white or black, i’ve never heard of red being off limits. My mom will be wearing maroon to match our color scheme!

It’s a holiday time wedding, Red is perfectly acceptable. The dress is beautiful and I’d be proud to have my mom wear it...
