mob attire

Hi all!

My mother bought the most stunning champagne dress for the ceremony and red dress for the reception. I absolutely LOVE them. She looks objectively incredible! My father and I bought said ‘wow’ out loud when she tried on the red dress (that I picked out nbd) 😂 She rarely does things for herself and I want her to feel and be beautiful right by my side!
My question is, honestly, what would you think if the MOB was first wearing champagne to the ceremony and then changed in to a red gown that she looks stunning in? (We have the good ol’ Catholic gap so many people will be changing in to evening wear)
I don’t think we’ll make any changes since we both love the dresses and at the end of the day, that’s all that matters. But I kinda just want to know if people still think that way about colors at a wedding.
The wedding is black tie if that helps add some context.

I wouldn’t think anything of it. That’s awesome that you I want your mom to look and feel beautiful on your special day! I am in the same boat – My mom so rarely does anything for herself, and I would absolutely love if she were to outshine me at my wedding!

I think most issues with someone wearing champagne is from the bride's perspective. And if you don't care, then it's not an issue! Smiley smile Plus, I love that you and your dad are so excited for her to look so beautiful. It sounds perfect!

It does not sound like anyone has a problem so far. Just hope that no one makes it a competition and just enjoys the wedding and reception. That is especially nice that you see it as a good opportunity for your mom to make the best of the event for you and her.

I think that my whole bridal party wants to change our from the wedding attire. I was talk into doing a dress change did really wanted to but I have the dress. Now my MOB will not be doing a change ahe is wearing a pantsuit so she said there is no need to change. But I told her if she wanted to let me know

I know SEVERAL “Mob”s that have worn champagne dresses so I don’t think that’s odd at all. A red dress seems perfectly normal to me as well!

I second this! If the bride is okay with the color, it’s not an issue!

If you don't have an issue, then I doubt anyone else would either! I think a lot of my family members who had big Catholic weddings back in the day had guests who changed for the reception, so it sounds totally normal to me!

If you don't care and she feels amazing, then she should wear them!

I will mention this though, in my SIL's wedding her mom wore a bright red dress (that I believe SIL was okay with) when everyone else wore neutral colors and she stuck out like a sore thumb in every photo. You look at her before you look at anything else. It doesn't mean your mom shouldn't wear the dress, I just wanted to share something I noticed about a similar situation. All of that could be aided by the right photographer who knows how to offset a brighter outfit like that in photos.

The photographers can now change colors very easily. It would be interesting if the bright red is toned down to a darker version.
