Mixing Late-victorian Theme With Geek Elements?

Emilyt5258, on April 4, 2024 at 5:16 PM Posted in Planning 1 6
I’ve been trying to come up with ideas and search Pinterest and google, but I keep finding the same generic decor and reception ideas and want to pick some other peoples’ minds for ideas!

To sum it up, my fiancé and I are having a late-Victorian themed wedding, mostly focusing our decor and clothing on the ****’s. We both sew and love historic fashion and costuming, and we got engaged at a historic village in period attire! Mixing Late-victorian Theme With Geek Elements? 1
Of course we want to carry that theme through now. We’re currently booked at a converted historic concert hall in our general area, with an outdoor tent ceremony and ballroom reception. My fiancé is getting a tailcoat & top hat and the groomsmen are all just wearing simple vests and slacks with shirts, and my bridesmaids are wearing historical or historical-inspired dresses (to their comfort, I’m letting them pick what they want with no requirement!), while I’m sewing an 1880’s evening gown as my dress. We’re also using a lot of antiques and Victorian themed decor. We have an 1890’s typewriter, 1870’s British military swords, tintype photos, heirloom laces, etc. I’m also custom making all the stationary by reproducing telegraphs, train memorabilia, and other generic pamphlets and Victorian magazines and ads.
We’re also huge nerds and want that to be included in our wedding. We met while cosplaying at a convention and continue to share our interests in gaming (final fantasy, soulsborne, Witcher, BG3, RDR2, etc.), D&D, couples’ cosplaying, reading, and all sorts of other things. Our wedding party consists of our D&D weekly group and cosplay friends as well, so they’re excited for general nerd antics. I’m finding it SUPER tricky to incorporate our other interests though!
Currently I plan on mixing the centerpieces with some geeky things. I’m making tabletop lampposts for centerpieces, and we’re going to add a different fictional town/area name on the “street signs” for tables with numbers (ex. 1: Baldur’s Gate, 2: Yharnam, 3: Midgar…). We’ve also decided on using Final Fantasy music for the ceremony, but not too many specifics past that. I really want to include more and I’m stumped! I was hoping to find ideas on things like reception activities or decor/setups, fun little things to add to the ceremony, and whatever other recommendations people can come up with that they’ve done or seen! In particular I’d love to involve rolling a big D20, but all I’ve found is to do that as an alternative for the “clinking glass to kiss” idea which I’m kinda iffy on.

Maybe do a scavenger hunt? You could put little cutouts of favorite characters throughout the event and give everyone a card where they can check off which characters they've found. Maybe do this during cocktail hour, and the person who's found the most characters by then gets to pick the first song after your first dance?

That is clever!!! I know cocktail hour can drag a bit for some, so that is a good idea of a way for people to keep busy if they’re bored and still have some elements of stuff we like!

Make sure you put pictures of the characters on the paper or put their names on the cutouts. That way, even people who aren't familiar with the characters can still play
