Mixing flowers?

Tayler, on January 7, 2020 at 8:16 AM Posted in Style and Décor 0 7

Has anyone ever mixed flowers? I bought a Sola Wood Flower Bouquet for myself because I wanted them to last forever (I’m sentimental like that) but my bouquet was $150 and I didn’t want to spend that much on my bridesmaids flowers to match mine because after the wedding they will have no use.. so I’m looking at getting silk flowers for the bridesmaids and the wedding decor.. think it will blend really well? Or be a total mess?

I’m so happy to hear that! I’ve been iffy about them but all the reviews were really good so I was leaning more towards them!

Don't try to match your arrangement of the silk flowers to your Sola flowers. That makes everyone look at the one different to compare. Choose a couple of the same blossoms and colors. Then some flowers with different shapes that are complementary, contrasting colors. So each other bouquet is unique. And neither will be exactly like the other, or yours. People will tend to look at each but not compare them. Since your arrangement is a ball, do others smaller and trailing, each with just a few larger flowers, then littler ones. Yours stays the showpiece. You each look good, not compared element by element as people naturally do when things are almost the same .

Think a freeform trailing one like this, with only some exact match bigger blooms in each one. Then trailing multi blooms, smaller, not round like the few big ones .

Also- my family come from far northern climates, and in N USA and Canada now. Until flowers were flown around with modern transportation, everyday people could not afford show cut flower displays outside the local growing season
And no heat for greenhouses. Many Scandinavian families still have bouquets carved of wood, with little beads or tiny flowers made from carved or polished stone ( semiprecious, or not.) We have 4 in the family from 1880's to 1950. Make sure to find out how to preserve them. With some it is a fine coat of wax. For others, a light wood oil. And never too dry, or stored in an attic which goes from summer heat, to near freezing. Once flower wood dries out or cracks, that is it. But taken care of, often under a glass done so you control humidity and dust, you can keep them free of mildew or cracks, for a century. But do not use modern acrylic sprays. Ot urethanes. They look great a couple years, then destroy it.

My niece is carrying a bouquet I had bought a long time ago. My bouquet is being handmade. It def won't match hers but no big deal!

I love the idea! We are using Ling's for mine and my bridesmaid's bouquets. I bought different flowers for mine because I wanted it to look a little different, but the girl's will all match. Definitely pick something that compliments and don't try too hard on matching!
