Mixing bridesmaid dress fabrics

Hithere, on January 29, 2021 at 10:04 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 7
I’ve liked the idea of letting my bridesmaids choose their own dresses and I’m totally fine with a mixed feel to it, one wants a satin dress, other wants a mesh dress, another wants chiffon.

Only thing that makes me a little nervous is the fabric being drastically different in color. I’d be fine if it were a little different I think though.
Have any of you ladies mixed bridesmaid dress fabrics? I’m looking at the wine color from David’s Bridal for all of the dresses.
Thank you!

The fabrics will absolutely make the color different. I’ve had an azazie color in different fabrics and it was all different.

L if you have a neutral color like black, you can go with any designer. If you want the same dye lot without color variations, stick to a single designer and pick a specific color they can choose their own dress from. For example, Cocomelody and Azazie have the same colors..you can mix and match those without looking mismatched. On the flip side if you say any pink, one goes to Davids, one goes to Dessy, one goes to random Etsy seller..they will all be different.

There is no reason why dresses have to be an exact shade match, never has been. That is a wedding industry marketing thing, to nail you to one vendor for all of the wedding party or accessories. People actually look better in group pictures when there is a little variation. You see the lines of each dress, separate and complete. Not a sea of arms and faces over one giant all the same dress. Look at each fabric sample. Only reject one if it crosses families. If you have cranberry, all red with blue undertone, a little purplish, others a little different like a similar to cranberry type wine, are fine. But if the one velvet or crepe is really burgundy, a brown undertone more than a red/ blue wine, reject that one. But a little lighter, a little darker, a slightly different mix of how much red or blue, all fine. Blue greens are fine, but not if one has more yellow, or an olive brownish touch. Keep families of blended colors, in the actual fabrics. It gives pictures a more rich, 3 D look to have that slight texture and color variation. Particularly if light is all overhead, no shadow, it really adds to the look to have small variations caused by different fabrics.

I’m letting my ladies decide style- my conditions are they need to be long, MOH needs to be burgundy & my 2 bridesmaids need to be red. They all bought them in different stores & are absolutely beautiful!

If it helps, my girls did David’s Bridal (Bellini) and bought at various stores, bought at various times and although we never discussed fabrics, I assume they were different fabrics too and they appeared the same to me. Here’s a picture to reference. Good luck ❤️ Mixing bridesmaid dress fabrics 1

Mixed fabrics will look totally fine, especially if each dress style is a little different too.

All my girls got their dresses from different places -- so they were different fabrics and different styles, not to mention slightly different shades of navy.

My advice is to go to the store and see if you can find the three dresses in the same color (not necessarily your color, but any color) and see if they really look that different. I will say dresses in different fabrics may look different because of how the fabric absorbs the fabric. However, my maid of honor was in a different dress made of a different fabric than the bridesmaids dresses and I don't think they look any different.
