Dedicated February 2016

Mix of cocktail table hightops and round tables with chairs.

Hello All,

I am getting married in 56 days....woo! We are having a dessert reception from 2:30-4:00 and have invited 103 people, but based upon the RSVPs thus far, we anticipate no more than 65-70 people. A few months ago we ordered chairs and tables from a wonderful rental company. At the moment, we have 7 round tables reserved along with 49 chairs to go around these tables. We also have 15 cocktail tables (sans chairs). We do hope people will mingle in the outdoor space we have rented.

Do you think it is ok to have enough seating for 49 out of 65-70 if this remainder can perch at the cocktail tables? We are having an ice-cream sundae bar (courtesy of Cold Stone Creamery), gourmet popcorn, and wedding cake for the guests to eat. This eating will be done in stages. Thanks for any advice! We can, if necessary, secure more chairs, but I do think people are going to talk to one another and move around the cocktail tables.

It's always a good idea to have a chair for everyone.

I think you should have a seat for every butt. Maybe add some high chairs or stools at the high tops?

70 guests = 70 chairs. Don't have some guests standing while they eat while others have the luxury of sitting.

Yes please have a chair for everyone. People tend to "camp out" at tables and leave their purses and stuff even when not sitting there. So it isn't like people will "swap out" at the tables. As an example, I have nerve issues in my hip and can't stand for long periods of time. So I would not be able to stay long if I couldn't sit part of the time.

As long as there are seats at the cocktail tables (like bar stools), then I think that works well. Younger guests gravitate towards bar-style seating anyways. And maybe have some deck furniture to just sit and chill out in without a table? Now that I think of it, I might do that for my own wedding. Hitchcock chairs or something like that

    Hi, All,

Thanks! This is very helpful advice. We can easily get bar stools for the cocktail tables. I appreciate the advice since I do not want to commit a faux pax. Smiley smile

A seat for each tooshy. Especially since it's eating in "courses".
