Mix & Match bridesmaid dresses

Jesse, on June 17, 2021 at 11:06 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 21
Need some help!
I’m torn between having my bridesmaids wearing all the same exact color & style bridesmaid dress, or having them wear all the same color, but let them pick the style for themselves (or give them a couple to pick from). Has anyone done the mix & match style but same color; and did you like it? Did your bridesmaids like the option to pick? Any thoughts or pics would be great- thank you!! The color I’m doing for them is sage green for a spring wedding (2022).

Everyone’s body type is different so I think it’s unfair to have everyone in the same gown. There are only a few cuts that are flattering on everyone. My girls will
be wearing the same color but all different dresses. It will allow a little bit of their personalities to shine through and they get to retain some individuality.

Like PP said, everyone has a different body type, so I always like the idea of everyone picking their own dress and wearing the same color!

My ladies are wearing the same color, and I'm letting them pick the style they want. I find it much easier to please everyone that way!

The last wedding I was in we were given a color and asked to get a floor length dress. This allowed the girls to get a dress that best suits their body type. Highly recommend! You can even suggest a material chiffon vs lace etc

I’m doing mix and match dresses. My bridesmaids are all different body types and height. What worked for one didn’t work for all so I chose a color. Gave them a style- long with straps and let them choose what they looked best in. We all went together so we made sure none of the dresses clashed.

Every wedding i've been in or been to in the last 5 years has had mix/match BM dresses and it looks great. Everyone can find something they're comfy in. Nothing wrong with asking them to all wear the same, but if they have no say, I think the bride needs to pay for it.

Great- this really helps- thank you all! When you told your bridesmaids that you want them to pick their own style- did any of them dislike that idea?

My MOH was skeptical because she never saw it done but once they all came together everybody loved the aesthetic.

I’m all about allowing my bridesmaids to choose the style that best fit their body type. I have five bridesmaids and each of them are so different. Two of them are wearing sequin and the other three doesn’t want to go that route so I gave them a color option that best match the sequin dresses. Can’t wait to see how it would turn out!

No, I initially chose the dresses, knowing their styles and body types and told them if they didn’t like it to tell me. 1/3 of them asked if they could change their dresses and sent me the ones that they preferred and that’s what they ended up getting.

I did mix and match and didn't do exact color. i just wanted them to choose their own dresses and be happy about it.

here's how it ended up looking in photographs. it's not the same color but it's close enough to not look out of place!

also i was a bridesmaid where we all had different dresses we got to choose and i was really happy about that because the likelihood of me wearing that dress again is pretty high!

I sent several options to chose from, that way it takes the pressure of those who don’t like shopping or too many choices. I think letting bridesmaids chose the style is a great idea. For example, one of mine told me she’s happy that she gets to wear short sleeves now.

Thanks all for the insights! I do have another question- did you just say what color & material to the bridesmaids & then let them pick from every dress that matched that description? Or did any of you have a list of like 10 dresses you liked & then asked them to pick from those options instead? I’m looking at dresses from Azazie, and I wasn’t sure if I should still let them pick, but from options that I like “pre-approved” still
Or not? Cause I am worried they will be TOO mix & matched & won’t look good together.

That’s great to know! I just posted a similar follow up question on here about having a list of options they can pick. So it gives them the chance to pick what they want still, but also for any who don’t want to have to find the dress, they can pick from the list I have.

We used Dessy (similar to Azazie) and I created a 'showroom' and added about 20 different dresses for my 4 bridesmaids to choose from. I wanted to ensure that their dresses were the same color, fabric, and length, while still allowing them to choose different styles due to having different body types. You can do the same thing with Azazie (choose a bunch of pre-selected dresses and create a showroom online for your girls to choose from).

Thank you! Yes- I thought of having done pre-selected so they can pick their style but also not have to stress over it too much still; I feel they might be too overwhelmed if I didn’t have some options to pick from.

I let my bridesmaids pick what they wanted. I chose a length and color and they picked the style they liked best. I was with them when we went shopping but it was nice to let them choose because they all have different bodies and know what they are or are not comfortable in. Also they were paying for it themselves so that helped them decide by being able to pick something in their price range.

I did the same color in different styles but, with my MOH in a separate color. I really like the look of different dresses. My friend who got married in 2019 did an ombre effect. So her MOH was in the original color she wanted (periwinkle) and then it got darker as we went down the line.

I'm doing mix and match. My bridesmaids are all different heights, weights and body types so letting them pick their own dress within a specific color will be best so that everyone feels comfortable. I'm doing floor length, but my sister did this recently with knee length and they all turned out pretty.

I did mix and match and my bridesmaids loved it, I think it looked amazing. My bridesmaids were all different sizes, and if I’d chosen a dress it would have been slip style which wouldn’t have suited everyone. Plus, my sister ended up being pregnant so actually had to get another dress! In photos it looked great!! I just told mine soft pink and I was happy with patterns and textures too Mix & Match bridesmaid dresses 3
