Mismatched rings - His and Hers

Aubrey, on April 2, 2019 at 9:09 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 15
My FH has been wearing a solid silver band that I got him as a promise ring for the last 5 years. I assumed he would want something similar as a wedding band. In looking them over, he has decided he really like Damascus steel wedding bands. He is between a brow hued one and a dark silver band.

My engagement ring is a normal silver and diamond ring and I was looking at a silver studded band. I really don’t like how the Damascus steel looks so I do not want that for my wedding band.

I have typically seen ring shots where the rings match, but ours will he so different, does anyone else have mismatched rings? Did they still look good in photos? Maybe I am dramatically overthinking this, I mean it’s just one photo?

I would actually say mismatched rings are the norm now. Look through most of the BAMs on this forum and you see in the ring pic that the rings ring match Smiley smile

Ours did not match. He chose his based on his taste and I purchased it for him. If you're really concerned about a photo, your photographer can make it work.

I love the contrast of yours and FH's potential wedding bands -- yours so delicate and sparkly and his so "rugged." I agree they do not need to match. Daughter's rings are sparkly stacked diamond bands with a solitaire and SIL's is black titanium (or something similar) edged in silver. They are each completely fitting to the wearer! Smiley heart

Thank you so much! I did not think about how contrast can be a good thing too!

I originally wanted ours to match, and also really thought my FH would pick a plain white gold band, but he's really leaning toward something different. I started to steer him away from that, but now really just want him to pick something he loves. It'd be cute if they matched for pictures, but I'd much rather him have something he's excited about wearing.

There’s no need for them to match. If they coincidentally do, great, if not, also great. I wouldn’t base something that he has to wear every single day off of one ring photo.

That’s where I am too! I want him to love his ring, it’s just not what I expected! I’m glad this is pretty common!

That is what I was thinking but was still nervous, but this seems common

Mine are completely mismatched based on our preferences and practicality. He needed something that he could wear in a studio so wanted a silicone. I was in love with a blackhills gold bridal set. So definitely mismatched, but think it's indicative of our approach to our relationship as a whole.

Mismatched rings are more common that not.

I agree with the rings not having to match. I thought that it would look weird myself, but after seeing pictures, to me that doesn't really matter. It is such a small detail of the day and what is most important is the promise that we are making to each other. My FH actually picked out a whiskey barrel ring (I'm actually kind of jealous because of the uniqueness to his ring Smiley xd ) but mine is a white gold with small diamonds and his is a black/cherry wooden look with a small line of white gold embedded in the ring. So ours kind of match but are completely different. I love our choices and cannot wait until we get them!
