Mismatched Bridesmaids?

Carol, on January 24, 2018 at 9:19 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 11
Hey everyone! So I’m trying to do a mismatched bridesmaids look but am having some worry over it. Here’s the variables:
-I have 8 bridesmaids from 3 different states
-everyone can only afford $100-$150 for their own gown
I want some glitz going on but not over the top. I was just going to let each girl find their own dress (within the color scheme and style) but I’m worried... what if the colors don’t go well together? Like what if 5 girls go to the darkest shade on the palate then everything is off balance? How do I get these gorgeous Pinterest bridal party dresses in real life?

I am am wondering who all has done this before and what your experiences were? Was it too stressful?

Don't sweat it. Mismatched bridesmaid look great. Just make sure everyone is on the same page about colour, style, and timeline. It will work out.

You could always ask them to send you a photo of the dress they are thinking about buying first. And if time is running short, you could always have some back up dress ideas from local shops like David's bridal.

I am doing this, but I'm coosing the exact designers/colors. They will only have the options of the styles available. I plan to go w each of them to pick out the dress they will wear. I've seen this done w little to no guidance and it can turned into a mess. I only have one bridesmaid out of town so I will coordinate w her via email. I would suggest coming up w a plan. As you said, different shades may not go well together. People think doing this is the easy way out, but it really requires some coordinating. Here are two combinations I put together when I went on my own to look at dresses. Good luck!

Even in the pic you are showing you can see that the colors/dresses that match each other are from the same disigner.

I let my girls choose their own Navy dresses and it worked out really REALLY well. I have zero guilt if they spent $200 on a dress they wear once, and no idea if they only spent $5 or was already in their closet.

If you want them all to be glitzy, just make sure you give them criteria and let them have at it. You can also request a picture before the buy, but women are smart, they'll get it. Your criteria can be "some glitz (sequins or shiny/sparkly fabric), floor length, champagne family of colors.

I had my girls pick between 3 shades of purple. My MOH is in the lightest, 2 BM in the medium shade and 3 BM in the darkest purple. They all picked their own style of dress. It just had to be long and chiffon. The dresses they picked are gorgeous!

I set up a showroom of about 40 dresses on Azazie with the styles and the color i liked. Their most expensive dress i saw was $159 + $10 for shipping. I let my girls pick which dress they liked most from them. You can even order color swatches from them for $2 each so you can be sure the colors work well together. And all your girls can order samples to try on at home for $10-25 (they probably won't be in the colors you want, but at least they can try them on). Their dresses are great quality and they do free custom sizing. Pics are of my girl in their samples

Azazie has some really pretty, cheap, sequin dresses! Like right around $100 in a couple of different styles. Maybe try that?

I'm doing this with my BMs as well. My original plan was to choose 5 colors that I thought went well together (I have 4 BMs and 1 MOH), and then have each of them pick one of the colors and then pick whatever floor length dress style they want. I've started to question this and worry that I didn't put enough controls in place and that it will look messy. I started wondering if I should pick fewer colors, limit to 2 or 3 styles only, etc. But, when I ran through each of those scenarios I had to make so many more decisions in order for it to work (e.g., how will they all stand in line if multiple people are in the same color/style, how will I assign colors/styles). In the end, I decided to stick with my initial plan and let them pick their own style in each of my designated colors. It just seems easier and then I know they'll all be in something they feel confident in. I suggest picking colors/shades that go well together any way that your BMs are lined up in pictures. That way, you don't have to worry about assigning colors now based on everyone's height/ position in line, etc. Also highly recommend buying swatches from somewhere like Azazie or David's Bridal. It helped me find the exact shades I want and make sure that they all mesh well together. But, most of my BMs still don't have their dresses, so this could all fail miserably. Good luck to both of us, lol!
