Mismatched Bridesmaids

Bibi, on November 7, 2016 at 1:44 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 20

I never really liked matching bridesmaids dresses. I love the way mismatched bridesmaids look! By bridesmaids range in age from 18-28. My tallest one is 6ft and the shortest is not even 5ft. I want everyone to feel comfortable with what their wearing on my wedding day. I want them to find something that truly suits them and makes them feel beautiful. They also live in different cities and are on different budgets. I was going to have them pick out their own dress, it just had to be long and any shade pink. Has anyone else let their bridesmaids pick what they want? Did mismatched bridesmaids dresses work out for you? Pros/Cons? Advice Smiley smileThank you

I am doing the same thing! I am in a wedding in February where the bride is doing the same thing. She left it up to the bridesmaids to find the dresses- no lace or sequins, long, flowy and shade of burgundy. We sent pictures to her when we found a dress and she Ok'ed or Nay'ed. I think she OK'ed more than said no because we all saw the look she was going for. I am going to do that same thinking with my bridesmaids and just ask to see them before they purchase and go into the shops with my bridesmaids that live around me. Smiley smile

I'm not a fan of this trend and have seen very few instances where I liked the look

I've just let my BMs know that I want them to order a certain color/length from Azazie, the way the dress looks can be up to them.

This has become very popular!! If you're worried about the look tying together you can pick a certain type of fabric, or designer, or shade that the dresses need to be. Or like @Mrs.Oot2017 posted - you can have the bridesmaids email you for the thumbs up before purchasing!

I had them pick from a couple different metallic dresses and they ended up wearing two silver and two gold dresses. They all worked and I think everyone looked beautiful in them ( but I'm biased). They ordered them from Rent The Runway and Vow to Be Chic and had a good experience.

That's what I'm doing! For all of the same reasons. Everyone is in different states, and has different body types and different tastes. Emerald green is the color, and I learned that Azazie and David's Bridal have the same emerald green. I got each girl simple gold Kate Spade bracelet (scored a GREAT deal at a local outlet store location) so they'll have a matching accessory that ties them all together. I honestly see no cons to the mis-matched plan, but I'm biased. Smiley smile

I plan to do the same thing with styles but would like for all the colors to match. Hopefully it works out well!

I'm doing this! My sister and MOH is even wearing a pantsuit instead of a dress. I gave everyone a color scheme to work with and let them go wild! A few have already picked their dresses and I'm loving them I love seeing some of the individually of my nearest and dearest. I can't wait to see how the final look comes together. Oh I did give them one limitation, no lace as my dress is all lace.

My bridesmaids all wear a different size and look best in different styles. We went to David's Bridal, I chose a color and length and they all chose a different dress. They're happy so I'm happy.

I did the same thing - mainly because my BM are scattered all over California/Oregon and because I don't want them spending hundreds of dollars on a dress they will never wear again.

Gave them a piece of fabric with the color to try to match (navy blue) and asked that it's long and "flowy." I'm happy with my decision, it's been stress free and I've had the opportunity to join some of them individually to look at dresses, which was a lot of fun! Can't wait to see pictures of them in their dresses.

I agree with Waffle, I do think it end up looking more cohesive with a bigger party. I have 8 bridesmaids.

If it's a lot of bridesmaids (like more then 4) I think can look a bit off balanced but for a few girls I think it's cute.

I picked a color, length, and fabric. I think it worked out perfectly, it's definitely hard to pick one dress if your bridesmaids have different body types. The pictures I've seen online of different shades of pink look really nice, I say go for it!

ETA: I also think letting them each pick a different dress avoids a lot of potential bridesmaid conflict, since you're not forcing them to agree or to wear a dress they might not prefer.

I chose the shade azalea by Hayley Paige/Jim Hjelm bridesmaids, and let my girls choose whatever dress they liked. My only request was that it had to floor length and in chiffon. So far, I love how it's coming along. All of my girls are so different, and these dresses really reflect their individual styles. I'm a bridal consultant here in Brooklyn, and I've seen brides totally rock the mismatched bridesmaid look. Azalea is a very specific color, but with like a blush or very neutral shades, I love the mismatched look! I actually also worked with a bride who did this with "storm colors" - and let all of her girls pick a dress in either greys, taupes, pinks and purples. It sounds crazy, but it was probably one of my favorite bridesmaid looks ever. Hope this helps and happy planning!

My BMs are choosing their own style dresses. They're all over the country, so this makes it easier for them to go dress shopping and not need to worry about what everyone else is picking. We did set guidelines, though. I picked the color, and the group decided to stick to long chiffon dresses from Alfred Angelo.

I think different shades of a color can look great. It was just a personal preference that I had to only want the silhouettes and necklines to be different and keep the shade of blue, length, and material consistent.

I'm not doing complete do whatever you want but I am just picking 3 different options and letting them pick what is most comfortable for them. I'm picking the same color, fabric, and length but 3 different top styles. So slightly mismatched but not completely.

I really like the idea and am considering it heavily for my wedding. Not sure what type you are going for but I really like how they put this look together

This is popular but hard to pull off - definitely look at pictures to get an idea of what colors go well together
