Minimoon in Alexandria Bay, NY

Angelina, on April 13, 2017 at 10:03 PM Posted in Honeymoon 0 18

Hey everyone!

FH and I are thinking about having a minimoon at a resort called the Riveredge Resort in Alexandria Bay, NY. We plan to go to Fort Drum after we get married and start searching for our apartment, so I figured while up there, we could go to this resort for 3 nights since it's only about 30 mins from the base. We weren't planning on going on a honeymoon anytime soon, so I figured this would be a great little getaway that we really need. I'm wondering has anyone stayed at this resort? Can you give me your review on the place?

I have not stayed there so I'm sorry I can't give you any feedback, but that sounds lovely!

I haven't stayed there either, but Alex Bay is gorgeous! That will be such a pretty, relaxing spot for you both to wind down after the wedding.

I've heard the resort is a little outdated, but provides amazing views of Boldt Castle.

I've never stayed at that resort but Alexandria Bay is a really cute area! There's a town center kind of area with all sorts of little shops. And Boldt Castle was really neat to check out! We took a boat tour as well that was informative / we saw a lot of different stuff.

That's exactly what I heard @SarahG!! I'm fine with it being a little outdated and there seems to be a lot to do on site. I saw pictures of the view of Boldt Castle and it looks gorgeous!!

I have been to Alex Bay many, many times. I have to say the resort is okay- slightly outdated as stated above. I think you will have a nice time for the few days you are there. To be honest, besides Boldt Castle, there isnt a lot to do there. The town is old- and not a vacation hot spot anymore. The little shops are typical of "beach town" shops (ex. t-shirt shops and cheap souvenirs). I do suggest spending a day at Boldt though, its quite romantic. I just hope you arent anticipating something new and fun to do everyday while you are there! Sorry to be a buzz kill, the last time I went was last summer and I was extremely disappointed at how its died down over the years...

I appreciate your honesty @absterx3 no buzz kill!! We are actually looking for something kind of chill just to relax so this may be good for us. We plan to eventually take a big vacation down the road it's just a tough situation right now with him being in the military. Thanks! :-)

I've stayed there before. It's definitely not a five star hotel but it's serves its purpose. There's an outdoor bar by the pool and it does have a nice view of the bay. Definitely check out Boldt castle it's beautiful!

Love Alex Bay! Keep in mind you will be there in peak season and will be very busy there. Room prices double. We stay at Captain Thomsons~ they have the best view of the river and Boldt Castle! Btw this is our honeymoon destination !

@Angelina Captain Thomsons books up very quickly so you should call now! Personally, I like Alex Bay better than Clayton and that new hotel I think will be very expensive. Uncle Sams boat tours is located in Alex Bay right next to Captain Thomsons too.

I stayed at the resort nearby (Bonnie castle resort & marina) so I can't offer much advice on your resort but I can tell you about the area. I LOVED Alexandria Bay. You absolutely must do Uncle Sam's Boat Tours. I suggest doing the full tour including visiting Boldt Castle and all the little islands on Millionaire's Row. The thousand islands are like a little fairy tale. If you guys are into boating I suggest doing a beach day at Potter's Beach. Enjoy!

Edit: Alexandria Bay and the thousand islands in general are all about the water. In my honest opinion, the place is nothing special without the boat tour. The boat tour provides such a unique experience. There are 1800 little islands with pretty houses on them. Very unique! One house even had a waterfall falling to the river. I think Uncle Sam's Boat Tour is a must.

Wow thanks for all of the information @Peaceandlove11!! I'm really hoping FH will be up for the boat tour that sounds so amazing! I am all about scenery so I know I would love that. Are there any wineries or breweries in Alexandria Bay?
