Mini Moon in Upstate New York

Jazmin, on January 2, 2018 at 2:07 PM Posted in Honeymoon 0 22

My fiancé and I are hoping to do a mini moon following our wedding on July 29, 2018 in Pennsylvania. We both want to go to New York for about 2-3 nights, but we wanted to try somewhere in Upstate New York. So far, we looked into Beacon and Hudson Valley, but we are not sure what other areas might also make for a nice, romantic trip. Any advice on locations we should look into or on the two locations mentioned would be extremely helpful! We do not know that much about New York nor Upstate New York for that matter, so any help would greatly appreciated!! Ideally, we would like to stay in one town/city for the duration, but wouldn't checking out nearby places.

We are planning to do a honeymoon about a year after the wedding in England, but we thought it would be nice to get away for a few days after the wedding.

There are lots of cute B&B's in the Finger Lakes region! You don't have to go far to find awesome wineries or beautiful hikes if you stay there.

The Hudson Valley is a beautiful area! There is so many things and hidden gems. But the Mohonk Mountain House might be a good idea! https://www.mohonk.com/

I grew up not far from there and moved to Pennsylvania they are both beautiful places to be!

Just wanted to pop in and say I'm from the Hudson Valley! I don't have any suggestions though, you wouldn't want to vacation in my town. The only thing it's got going for itself is the winery; but like @KR said, you'll definitely find great wineries and hikes up there!

Another idea would be to maybe go near the Canada/US border if that's something you guys would be into?

I've lived in the Fingerlakes Region my whole life! We are not called "Wine Country" out here for nothing! There are tons of wineries out here, so book a tour if you're into that! Trails, local wilderness parks, amusement parks (if you're going in the summer of course)...
Even off we're technically Western NY, it's still pretty nice, especially in the fall!

Check out Lake George, New York. The lake is beautiful and there is plenty to do in town for a few days. We live about an hour away and FH and I love taking day trips up to visit.

We're getting married in Saratoga. There is a lot to do there and Lake George is under an hour away. Plus late in July you might be there during track season which is always a fun day out!

The "Capital Region" in New York has a lot to offer for things to do.

I also vote the Finger Lakes! It's gorgeous in that area! I don't know anything about the wineries but there are some awesome breweries in that area if you are into craft beer. There is plenty to do in that area, and its just so pretty.

Finger lakes region - Ithaca or skaneateles. Loks of waterfalls, hiking, and wineries. The finger lakes are gorgeous in July. Or lake placid!

FH and I passed through Portgageville, NY on a road trip over the summer. We only spent one night there but I wish we had planned for more time. It was beautiful and I've heard great things about the nearby Letchworth State Park. The downtown area looked really cool too.

Oops sent before I updated! Little lake town with cute shopping, nice winery, hiking, waterfalls, etc nearby. Great spa if you want a spa day at Mirbeau.

I’m from upstate Ny. I don’t recommend beacon. The adirondacks are incredible in the summer. Saratoga is fun there’s the race track (if you’re into gambling) they have a cute downtown and a casino, plus a huge lake. Lake George is also really nice but REALLY BUSY in the summer. If you’re into hiking there’s tons of mountains with beautiful views. North of lake George in Warrensburg is a white water rafting. There’s also Ausable Chasm, not near lake George at all. But it’s sooo much fun.

Thank you all for your recommendations!! We are going start looking into the Finger Lakes region as well as Lake George and Lake Placid. We are hoping to check out some wineries and do some hiking, so these places sound great!
