Oh man @EW, I was going to suggest Gualala or Sea Ranch. So quiet, so pretty, such nice beaches. FH's family owns a vacation home in Sea Ranch and it's my favorite place in the world.

Carmel or Monterey are nice little seaside towns that offer many romantic settings--art, wine, beach, aquarium, spas, antiques, etc. Big town amenities with a small town feel. It's where FH and I took our first overnight trip together and I have a special place in my heart for it! We stayed at a couples-only hotel which was very romantic and we went to this super cool restaurant (called Montrio Bistro) for an intimate dinner, we also visited one of the national preserves there (Point Lobos) which was ABSOLUTELY BEAUTIFUL and so fun. We also did Fisherman's Wharf and near there they happened to be having a little arts/crafts event on the square which was fun. We wanted to do the aquarium and a spa but we didn't have the time, but we still loved it. I would whole heartedly recommend one of those or both since they are so near each other.

We were originally planning to honeymoon in CA, and part of the trip would have been Monterey down to Big Sur. It's supposed to be a beautiful drive, and you go through a lot of great little towns.

We're going to stay a night at the Madonna Inn in SLO (every room has a theme, the first time we went we stayed in the Crazy Daisy room...OMG Daisies everywhere!!!) and visiting the Hearst Castle and doing some wine tasting in Paso. The San Luis Obispo area is nice, Avalon Beach, Pismo

I stayed at Paso Robles Inn once I believe. If it's the same place I'm thinking of then it was a nice hotel. Big. There was like a farmers market across the street from it and walking distance to resturants and shops

    Meridith,

I agree that the Madonna Inn is insane. I totally forgot about that place.
