Mini-moon Fund Jar

Kara, on September 22, 2020 at 10:48 AM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 12
Hi ladies!

We are getting married this Saturday and since we are having the reception at our Church as well, we are unable to have a “dollar dance, or anything other than the traditional husband/wife, father/daughter, and mother/son dances. We aren’t taking our actually honeymoon until December which was our original wedding date that we moved up due to family concerns/Covid. So we are taking a little mini-moon two day vacation. Do you think it would be inappropriate to put a jar out for a “mini-moon fund”?

Most people just have a card box and that’s where people can put in envelopes and cards and stuff for you

Yes! I knew that, and we will have that. I just meant in place of a “dollar dance” which is pretty common where I am from.

No disrespect intended (and just my opinion), but I think this may come off as tacky and/or greedy.

No, I don’t think it’s ever a good idea to ask guests to fund any part of a wedding. It was your choice to hold the wedding sooner. So, choosing to go on a getaway afterward isn’t your guests responsibility to pay for. Also a mini-moon really isn’t necessary since you already have a full honeymoon planned in December. So for a simple two day trip, just plan to go somewhere that you can afford.

If your guests want to give you more money than they already are in their cards/gifts, then they won't let the lack of a dollar dance stop them. I think the potential downsides to putting out a jar outweigh any potential benefits.

Right, which we already have it all paid for 😉 this question was more of a I have seen it done before, but I have mixed feelings about doing it, so why not ask other brides for an opinion!

Thank you! That was the type of answer I was looking for. I wasn’t going to put one out. However, I had been asked if I was going to since there wouldn’t be a “dollar dance”. Thanks for your response!

    I don't think it'd be appropriate, I would find it off-putting as a guest.

I was going to agree with other posters about not doing a jar. Until I saw your response about guests asking about it.
If the dollar dance is tradition where you are from and you’ve had multiple guests ask about it, then I don’t see the harm in having a jar. You could try and find a poem/note about using the jar in place of the dance. I wouldn’t do it if it was only 1 person that asked about it though.

I definitely wouldn't. I am sorry you won't get to do one though. Covid sucks
