Milk Glass and Gold Centerpieces

ThePeoplesBride, on May 26, 2018 at 5:35 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 17

I originally wanted all of my centerpieces to be gold in colour. But I was having issues with finding metal pedestal bowls/vases in multiples and within our budget. I stumbled upon milk glass bowls and have fallen in love with them as an alternative. I'm just not sure if they will mesh well with the other gold centerpieces. Feel free to call me crazy.

Our concept is Victorian Gothic.

Our colours are black and sage with cream and gold accents.

The Idea:

There are 13 tables.

- 7 tables have tall gold centerpieces

- 6 tables have low milk glass centerpieces

(We haven't decided what the 'tall' element will be. Either candelabras, tall pillar candle holders, or trumpet vases. I've included an example of each from my Pinterest boards. No matter what, there will be a floral/greenery element on top.)

The Inspo:

The milk glass bowls will have a floral arrangement like this in them.

Love the idea of mixing & matching tall/short centerpieces. That'll be such an interesting look instead of doing such matchy-matchy centerpieces.

I'm really partial to the look of the gold vases, if possible. That helps tie all of them together (and will pick up the gold architecture of your divine venue). Any chance you can rent them from your florist? Did you already try eBay and Amazon?

I love the look of milk glass, but for me there is a disconnect with the Gothic part of Victorian Gothic.

I would use spray paint to get more vases, candelabra-whatever- instead of adding milk glass.

I love milk glass.... My mother had a number of pieces -- they are so clean and sweet looking! Technically, I think it had it's roots in the late-1800's, so that would make it "Victorian"; although, I think most milk glass that's commonly available is more likely depression-era or newer. Unless you're inviting a bunch of history/antique snobs, I think it is beautiful and perfect for your theme & venue! Smiley heart

Thank you! I actually feel better about it now that all the photos are in one place rather than scattered throughout my pinterest board.

My thoughts exactly. It would make it look extremely cohesive but I've been trolling local flea markets/thrift stores/antique malls for a few months now. There are even a few vendors looking out for gold coloured pedestal bowls for me with no luck. I've looked on eBay and Amazon but either the prices are off putting or there isn't enough of them of relatively the same size for me to justify paying $40+ per bowl. (I know that doesn't sound like a lot but it all adds up and I'd rather focus that money somewhere else if I can help it.)

I didn't even think about contacting a florist! That's definitely my facepalm moment for the day.

This was my concern as well since, if Pinterest is anything to go by, milk glass is used in more rustic/farmhouse themed weddings. There will be other elements to go with the centerpieces that will bring in that theme besides the black linens we plan on using for the tables.

Thanks for the feedback. I didn't even think about spray-painting them. (Yet another facepalm moment for me today.)

Our florist is going to paint some glass vases with gold paint for us. They aren't pedestals, because those are much more expensive, but they are going to work for us. Smiley heart

    Thank you!

I hope we don't have any surprise history/antique snobs in our family! FH and I are the big history buffs so the worst that could happen is a history lesson from said family member(s).

It's crazy how expensive those metal bowls/vases are, even the small ones. I love the look of them, and I totally understand why they're so expensive, but my wallet isn't large enough. And if I'm going to splurge, it's going to be on something more practical like food and drinks not decor.

I also wanted to do pedestal vases in mercury gold and they were too expensive so I looked for a DIY. My wedding is in 1 year so I was going to do them about 11 months in advance. Here is the link and can be done from dólar tree. Love how these came out in the link, hope you like them too and you have time to do them!
