Military Wedding

Any Brides planning a military wedding? I'm confused about how to word on the invitation that military dress is invited. The groom is enlisted air force but is wearing his formal uniform based on his rank. Not all guests have a formal uniform. Is it ok to say Formal and Semi Formal Dress invited?...

Shannon, if your FH has buddies with sabers, I don't see why you could not do your own arch. I know the actual honor guards are reserved for higher ups and im still (and will forever be) learning all the rules, but I don't see why you couldn't put your own together.

ETA maybe just dont advertise it. Unfortunately there are a lot of asses who would tattle.

The FH called the Air Force protocol office to get the scoop. Apparently in the Air Force there are no rules regarding enlisted/officer and the saber arch. All can have it :-) We do have the option of having active duty friends get trained by the honor guard a month prior to the wedding. FH kinda likes that idea cause it will mean more to him...we will see! But they did mention rules with seating at the ceremony and rank on the invitation/envelopes.

In the Air Force and Army any rank is allowed to have them. Are you sure your information is accurate? I would contact the protocol office, because that doesn't sound right.

Edited: Julie I'm so glad you guys called and got good information!! That is one of my favorite traditions, and to have your friends participate would be even better!!

Laura- the Marines are allowed to do it. Cpl and above are authorized to have a saber. My BFF had it at her wedding.
