Military Wedding Advice Needed

Emma, on April 4, 2019 at 10:50 AM Posted in Planning 1 5

Hello everyone. My fiancee and I just got engaged and have started the planning process. He is in the army, and wants to get married in his blues. Does anyone have any advice on planning a military wedding? I have looked online for tips and stuff, but haven't found much with specifically military weddings. Thank you!

I am having an Air Force wedding on the 13th!! So close now!
My fiancé is getting married in his mess dress and it is Navy blue so I got my bridesmaids dresses the same color! Also all the groomsmen are wearing their Air Force mess dress!
We have a saber line at the wedding (sooo excited for that part)
we are getting married on the base golf course, with the reception at the NCO club on base (go check yours out wow cheap) or tell your fiancé where they do awards ceremony go ask about weddings!
We just had to collect everyone attendings drivers license, birthday, and full names turned it into pass and Id 3 weeks before, to get everyone approved to get onto base.

My wedding colors are Navy blue, white with hints of gold and silver, my colors are based off Air Force with hints of gold so that it doesn’t look like the cowboy team colors (😂 my fiancé doesn’t like them)

My husband is in the navy and our biggest thing was having wedding insurance. Granted he was deployed for 90% of wedding planning but in case he got called for training or another deployment we wouldn't lose our deposits. Most of our vendors were military friendly, meaning that if we had to cancel that date they would hold our deposit and let us pick another date without extra fees. Most of our vendors offered a military discount so make sure to ask about that too! 10% on various items adds up.

We didn't incorporate anything military related into our ceremony or reception. H didn't wear his dress blues, but our colors were navy, burgundy, and white so we did a play on red, white, and blue. Our wedding date is also the navy's bday so he was happy about that.

    That is really close. Congrats!!!

My fiancee wants to do the saber arc for sure. Actually that was really one of the only planning things he has decided on so far.

As for colors we are thinking about navy for the groomsman suits since not all of his groomsmen are in the army. Then burgundy for the bridesmaids. I absolutely hate gold, but I think I am going to have to do touches of it to tie in with the stripe on his uniform pants. (Haha. You don't like the cowboys I take it. I am not keen on them, but living in Dallas area now that has been hard to cheer for my team unfortunately.)

On base is a really good idea. I had not thought about that yet for a venue. Was it hard to get approved for that many people? I don't know how many you have, but we are looking at 150.

Aww. That is cool that it's on the Navy's birthday. That is a cute touch even if it might not have been planned.

Fingers crossed we will not have to deal with a deployment. Especially since he is just coming off of one. That is a good idea to make sure they can move the date if needed and get the insurance. Especially with all the vendors and not just like the venue only.

    Thank you!

It was simple. I put the information I needed on the RSVP cards and I also did it in my online RSVP, so I just made a excel sheet with all the information and you submit it to the base three weeks before and it takes them about two weeks to tell you who is approved, then everyone just shows the gate guard their ID day of wedding and all good.
