Military Brides and the Travel Ban

Kim, on April 20, 2020 at 10:47 AM Posted in Planning 0 12
Hey ladies, are any of you guys in the military or have a fiance who is? I'm really worried about the travel ban affecting our August wedding (domestic destination wedding), and of course our honeymoon. I'm new to military life (my fiance is army), and I'm wondering if anyone knows the likelihood of them continuing to extend the ban, or if there's a way we could get a pass at least for the wedding since it's not in a hotspot state. Thoughts? Advice?

We Are both Military As Well. How Far Away From Your FH's Duty Station Is The Venue? Local Leave Is Still Allowed As Far As I Know Which I Believe Is no Farther Then 50 Miles. I Think The Ban Will Last until Their New Set Date June 30th But Hopefully Things Will Start Looking Better By Then. Have him Talk To His Chain Of Command And See What They Say About It. Hi Trisha! Thanks for the good luck wishes! Unfortunately, he's stationed in NC and the wedding is in MN 😓 Smiley sad What do you think the odds are that they'd allow him a pass for the wedding at least if they end up extending the ban? I'm trying to get him to talk to his chain of command too.😬

Right Now The Only Exceptions Are For Those People Transferring Or Retiring. It Really Is Up To His Chain of Command To See if They Can Make An Exception To Policy.

My guess is, they will not allow him special permission. We were denied permission for an outdoor wedding of 19 people before the 10 person limit went into play. They are enforcing this pretty heavily.

Geez! Did you reschedule?.... I'm seriously hoping they don't extend the ban anymore and we're ok for August 😬

We did not reschedule but canceled because I feared the bans would continuously get more strict. Our original date was April 23rd. We had planned this wedding around moving to a new duty station and therefore it was to be out of state on a central location for all family. Now introduce the pandemic. My husband (we eloped) is a recruiter and his orders got extended until May 11th which was the original end date for the travel ban. So we began making new plans around that date. Then we find out they are keeping him until september 1st because no recruiters can go to the training and therefore there is no one to replace him. So I make plans for ANOTHER wedding in a state closer that gives me the vibes I want. We figured the ban may be lax by June and they would allow for a few hour drive. Just this week we find out the military just extended the ban until June 30th. At this point, the best option for us is to wait things out and plan a quick wedding day when we have the chance. As much as I don't want to give up my dream day, this is too much heartache over and over again. We aren't just fighting a pandemic but also military orders. It is a double whammy. I just pray I can get some great photos of us in our attire with our loved ones.

Thank you! I wish you the best as well. I would wait until about a month out and see if this lifts. Do not pull out just yet because vendors won't want to refund any money. I am hopeful that by August this will clear up to the point where we can celebrate again!

I know this post is a couple months old now but it’s comforting to me that I’m not the only one going through this too. My fiancé is in the Army and we’re long distance. Our wedding was supposed to be this Friday but because of the DoD travel ban, we had to make the decision last month to delay. My fiancé is due to PCS in August so his command recommended rescheduling for August since he’s supposed to get 30 days of PCS leave. We rescheduled the wedding for August 14 and just last week, my fiancé was scheduled for ALC from July 6-August 14 😳 Now we’re in the process of rescheduling for August 21. It’s not so much about the date anymore, it’s the constant unknowns that are wearing me down. I feel like there’s still so much that can happen between now and August in either direction. The wedding is taking place in Florida where I currently live and my biggest fear right now is that the DoD is going to extend the travel ban to certain states such as Florida (there’s a perception that the virus is running rampant here which isn’t 100% true). Just needed to vent somewhere, I’m glad I’m not alone in all this. I wish everyone the best in their situations, especially if one or both of you is in the military 🙏

OMG I know exactly what you're feeling! I'm driving myself crazy with the unknowns because, at the end of the day, it's just that: unknowns.... We have zero control in the situation and it sucks, as though wedding planning wasn't already stressful enough! Just add a freaking pandemic and military last minute obligations, and it's enough to make you go insane. We've already had to postpone from June 4th. So, I've thought of giving up so many times, but we've invested so much time and money that, at this point, we just have to cross our fingers and hope they let him have his August leave request. You're right, it's nice to know you're not alone. I'll be hoping for the best for you too girl!! Good luck!
