MIL and bridesmaid dresses

Kelly, on July 10, 2013 at 7:20 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 7

Did/Is anyone taking their MIL to shop for BM dresses? I didn't because I would have had to pick her up (over an hour away) and take her home. The girls and I had a big day planned of dress shopping and lunch at a beach bar, and I didn't feel like that was really a MIL activity. Am I wrong? My own mother wasn't even there, but I'm getting an attitude from MIL. Grrrr.... it's too early for this drama already.

I'm having this same issue ... My mil wants to be involved in every aspect of the wedding like her daughter is getting married-she has no daughters and I'm marrying her youngest son!!

But I don't think its wrong not to involve her in certain aspects of the wedding-I prefer the art of surprise

Nope, my mom didn't come either. We did all go out for mom and MIL dresses though.

My bridesmaids have been given a colour and length and have been left to find what they like. I asked them to take a pic and send it to me or to bring me with them so I can nix it if I really don't like it. FMIL and my mom won't see them until the day of the wedding.

My mom and FMIL weren't even there when I bought my dress. Went with my sister in law, fell in love, went back 2 days later with my bridal party and bought it then and there

We all live close except one person. So were all gonna go together and look at dresses so I can make sure they look nice and are comfortable. I want them to be comfortable mostly. They are all different shapes and sizes but we are going to try for all the same dresses

My mom will deff be there but i doubt my fmil will

My FMIL went with me. not on purpose though. I offered to pick up FH's sister (who's a BM) when we went, but FMIL said that since she's only 16 she needed to be there in case the girls needed to put down a deposit and to have some say in style. FH and I were laughing about it because I'm pretty sure she was convinced I was going to put FSIL in something scandalous! I didn't really mind, went out to lunch with my girls after FMIL left, but she was very opinionated and annoyed my BMs a bit. my mom actually didn't go, she told me she was having a women's group over and needed to clean and cook and it wound up being a surprise shower she and my BMs put together.

Ok glad I'm not the only one. FMIL is very opinionated and already doesn't like the dress we picked out. I can tell early on she's going to drive me crazy.
