Mid-afternoon Wedding?

Sagan, on August 20, 2016 at 11:38 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 11

I'm seeing a lot of later weddings (and far fewer early ones) mentioned on the forums, and I'm just wondering if we are doing something impolite by planning a 2:30 ceremony? The invites aren't ordered yet so there's time to change things, but our tentative timeline is:

2:30-3:00 Ceremony

-approximate 20 minute drive to reception-

3:30-5:00 Cocktail hour (and a half) while we do photos

4:30 Entrance of Party

(We wanted to enjoy part of cocktail hour)

5:00 Dinner / Speeches

6:00-10:00 Dancing

Thanks in advance!

My family normally has weddings at 2 due to the church having mass in the evening. I wouldn't mind your scheduleSmiley smile

Since you are doing s cocktail hour I think it's fine. The only reason it would be a problem is if you had a large gap between the ceremony and reception

I've been to weddings like this. I think you're probably fine. Cocktail hour seems a little long, but I also wouldn't want dinner before 5 pm.

That's basically my exact timing! We have to end a little earlier so our cocktail hour is only an hour. I don't think it's impolite to plan a mid-afternoon wedding as long as you're properly hosting.

We're doing a 3pm ceremony and 4-9 cocktail hour & reception. I think it's totally up to you.

Also some venues have specific times you have to book, especially on Saturdays if there are 2 weddings that day.

Mid afternoon weddings are some of my favorites. I'm not a fan of receptions lasting until midnight or later, so ending at 10 pm would be perfect for me. After weddings, I always enjoy hitting a bar with friends so we can actually talk without it being so noisy.

One of our weddings today is at 3:00, and we have at least two outdoor venues that always start at 3:30 or earlier!

That's a long day for guests. My brother had a similar time line but he started at 4. Finished at 430. Cocktail hr. From 430-530. Dinner at 6 and dancing from 7-10. Most guests left between 8 and 9 and by 10 it was only immediate family left. Maybe this is weird but for me it was a long day.
