Microweddings!

Danica, on January 11, 2020 at 12:27 PM Posted in Planning 1 15
We’re having a microwedding. Since this is my second and his first, we’re both in our 40’s and don’t want to have a big crowd focus on him (I’m good either way), we went with a small wedding.

One attendent each, their significant others and our parents and siblings.
Our ceremony is on the porch of a 1920’s restored house and our reception is a private room at a restaurant. AM ceremony followed by a brunch reception. All of my decor is DIY, save the dates were emailed, and invitations were customized to each person/couple since we had so few to send! We also are doing fancy cupcakes with custom toppers instead of a cake.
What details are you able to do with such a small guest list of your own?

We rented a big house where we and all of our guests could stay the night before the wedding and the wedding night. Welcome dinner (we didn't have a rehearsal) was pizza we had delivered to the house. It let us spend lots of time with our guests, instead of just 30 second table greetings.

We also had a welcome dinner at an AirBnB house the night before (most of my family stayed there because it was a DW).

With only 15 guests, we skipped a DJ/dancing but with the saved budget hired a violinist for the ceremony and an accordionist for cocktail hour—live music added so much!

My oldest daughter had a small wedding totaling 11 people. We made the bouquets ourselves from bulk roses from Costco, decorated the executive suite in a downtown high rise in Chicago where they got married, and held the reception in a private room at Ditka’s Restaurant. Only detail we missed was hiring a professional photographer. Don’t skimp on photography just because it’s small. Good luck!!

    Love this!

I’m originally from Chicago but moved out west after college...been a few years since I’ve been back to visit.
Our ceremony venue includes a photographer and the officiant so that definitely helps for sure!

I am having a verrrrrrrrrrrrrry micro wedding ha ha. My FH has social anxiety so I have been considering having it at an air bnb or bed and breakfast. Sounds similar to what you are doing. How did you choose your place because I want a lovely venue.

Interesting....I’ve never heard the term. What guest count constitutes a “microwedding”?

We're having a small wedding with eighteen people including us. We're having it at a small victorian-esque bed and breakfast in the mountains. We have an all-inclusive package set up and are loving all the small elements and help from our on site wedding coordinator as well as having everyone stay at the location.

We had a micro wedding. 7 guests plus the two of us. We took advantage of our park's bylaw that gatherings of less than 20 people don't require a permit and had our ceremony in a beautiful park garden. Then we rented a private room in a restaurant and had an absolutely amazing 4 course meal. We had a limo, photographer, ceremony musician, and I wore a big wedding dress. It was great!

Maybe try contacting a local historical society? The one near me has a few beautiful houses they hold meetings in, but also rent out for events like this.
