Microwedding questions

Lauren, on February 2, 2022 at 8:39 AM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 8
I’m having a microwedding of 25 people, which includes my fiancé and I (10 people are children). We are having a outdoor ceremony at 1pm, followed by a meal inside. Since about 98% of the people attending are family and would be in pictures following the ceremony, would you say a cocktail hour is necessary? Also, in terms of planning, how much time would you assume would be needed for pictures/meal/cake? We are not planning on having a traditional reception, just a meal followed by cake- no dancing, no bouquet toss, etc.

Just wanted to say we’re getting married on the same day! ☺️ We’re having a small backyard wedding but it will be more like 50-60 people. I’m not a wedding expert but I wouldn’t think a traditional cocktail hour would be necessary at all. You could always have a light snack out such as chips and salsa rather than fancy snacks with alcohol. Is the meal a late lunch? If so, I would ask your photographer how long she thinks it will take for the photos and plan the meal right after since y’all will probably be hungry.

My friend’s wedding was a very similar timeline as yours with about 30-40 people. They did have a “cocktail hour” but I don’t think it was the full hour and they would just call our names if we were needed for pictures. Basically they had passed appetizers and the bar was open. From the start of the ceremony to their send off it was a total of 3 hours. That includes ceremony, family/friend pictures, first dance, dinner, and bubble send off. They did do couple portraits afterwards at another location.

I saw we’re getting married the same day!! We started planning in November, and I felt like it was coming up so quickly. Now, it feels like the next 4 months will take forever!!

Thanks, I’ll discuss with the photographer how long she thinks it’ll take.

Maybe just have some drinks and snacks on hand for those that are not in photos all the time. People will be needing to switch in and out so it would be nice to have something there.

I'm in the exact boat as you! We will have 20 people there, and all of those people will be in pictures at some point, so we will not be doing a traditional "cocktail hour" as we will all be together on the beach where our pics are being taken. We will have a cooler with beverages (waters, beer, juice boxes for kids), as well as a tote of snacks for the impatient kiddos (fruit snacks, goldfish, etc).

Oh that’s a good idea with juice boxes and small snacks for the kids. We’re in sc, so the water will definitely be needed im sure for adults. Thankfully, no one drinks alcohol, so that’s keeping costs way down!

We’re having 30 people, not many traditions. No first dance, bouquet toss, gifts/registry, or garter. Among others omitted. We decided to do a first look so we can spend the cocktail hour with our guests. Many of them drink, and we don’t want to miss time with them. Judging from my first wedding (about 25 years ago), and just what I know, pics can take 1-1.5 hours- maybe less because you have less people. It depends on the photographer and how hard it is to get everyone together, and all the places/poses you guys want.
