Micro wedding experiences?

Hope, on February 10, 2021 at 8:37 PM Posted in Community Conversations 2 18

I would love to hear some people experience with having a micro wedding! I’m thinking about changing my small wedding to become even smaller! There is one venue we are looking at but they only do micro wedding during the week for certain months, hopefully by 2022 it will change. We would like to get married in Oct 2022!

What do you consider a micro wedding? We have 17 guests in person due to covid and about 100 on livestream. It was awesome and super intimate

Really small intimate wedding. The wedding I was planning on having before I changed my mind would had about 70 guest. Now I went down to 20 guest. I didn’t think about livestream! Did you hire someone to do livestream?

Ok so definitely a similar guest count! We did not, we bought a tripod and used an app called Lovecast to stream it using our phone! It creates a link for guests to watch, so they don’t have to download anything to access it and they can only see you. That way there’s no dealing with people forgetting to unmute themselves like if you were to use zoom

Wow! Thank you Anais for telling me about the app! You really helped me out, my grandmother wouldn’t be able to come to my wedding and I was wondering how can we get her to watch it over cam. Thank you so much again

We had 15 guests and did a destination wedding in our same state. It was amazing. No DJ/band needed. Our closest friends & family, a big fun dinner party, we splurged on the venue and food/alcohol but save money by having it off-season on a weekday night. Loved it!

We went from a 92 person wedding to a 7 person wedding due to covid. More intimate and honestly cheaper lol. We had it at an outdoor garden ceremony. It was beautiful. Cost us $250 to get married there. If I could do it all over again I would.

We made it the smallest by deciding to elope. My parents are divorced and dislike each other and aren't afraid to show it! I hate being the center of attention.

You guys look great! The reception area is very beautiful as well! Me and my fiancé want to have it in VT at a nice Inn near the mountains. My theme is boho/rustic and we was thinking 19 guests.

COVID forced my hand . . . and we went from planning a 250 person wedding in New Orleans to a 20 person wedding at a resort in Destin, Florida. Not at all what I had envisioned, but it was the best decision ever! We had our parents, siblings, nephews, grandparents, godparents, aunt and uncles in attendance, and everyone else participated via livestream. I had my videographer handle the livestream because we wanted to see everyone and do a virtual toast immediately following the ceremony. The smaller wedding was much more intimate and MUCH cheaper, but we got to splurge on some things and really treat our in-person guests. Our dinner party reception was so much fun. We had some traditional elements (father walking me down the aisle, grand entrance to reception and first dance, cake cutting, and shoe game), but no bouquet and garter tosses. Also, no band or DJ - I made playlists that "rocked the house" according to my 5 year old nephew who danced himself silly and passed out after the reception. It was an amazing day, and I can't imagine it being any other way!

One of the best choices we made was to have a micro-wedding. We're able to splurge on great food and still have the look we wanted for a fraction of the price. I'd use Lovecast to stream the wedding to anyone who can't be there.

I had 19 people (including us) at my wedding last year. We had always planned for it to be small, but our guest list changed due to Covid. My father is immunocompromised so couldn't attend as it was too risky for him, plus my grandfather also couldn't fly over, so we decided to add a "virtual wedding" element using Zoom.

Adding the Zoom was great because our wedding originally planned for 25 people ended up having an additional 60 friends and family joining on the Zoom (from all over the world, literally Australia to Los Angeles!).

We choose Zoom over a Facebook Live/YouTube screen so there could be an interactive element with our guests rather than them just watching - we showed a few slides at the beginning, "interviewed" the groom before the bride arrived, and spoke to our guests during the reception. It was nice spending quality time with the people who were there in person for most of the day without being overwhelmed, but the fact that other loved ones were able to be there for the ceremony and the key moments of the reception (toasts and cake cutting) made the day even more special. We did an "intermission" in between so out virtual guests could eat at home/do some work etc. while we travelled to the reception venue and had our lunch. My dad even got to give his father of the bride speech without being there in person... it all worked out great :-)

I would have loved to use Wedfuly to have someone facilitate our wedding Zoom, but their business took off at the time between my initial enquiry and finalising the wedding date (one month)their prices went up from offering a basic Zoom link with access to the premium Zoom features for free, to $500 for a simple ceremony with a facilitator or $800 for something fancier (since then they have changed to only offering the top package, with a price increase to $1200!). So we just used my most "technical" friend to run the Zoom. It wasn't technically "perfect" there were some mishaps, but it was still awesome and everyone enjoyed it.

If I had it to do again I would, although I would consider using a reasonably priced service/"virtual assistant" to have someone not actually in the wedding help on the technical side.
