Michigan/penn State signature drink names?

Ali, on May 18, 2020 at 2:45 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 5

My fiance and I are both HUGE college football fans (I went to the University of Michigan and he went to Penn State). I'm currently toying around with the idea of naming signature drinks after our alma maters, because I think it could be a cute way to incorporate that part of our lives without going over the top. Can anyone out there think of a good drink name for either school?

Michigan

best idea so far: "Michigan Mule/Mojito/Mimosa/Marg/Martini"

words to use - Michigan, Ann Arbor, Wolverine, Go Blue, maize, blue, Harbaugh, Big House, Bo, Diag, etc.

Penn State

best idea so far: "WE ARE-nold Palmer"

words to use - Penn State, State College, Happy Valley, We Are, blue, white, white out, Beaver Stadium, nittany lion

Would your guests understand all the references. Being from MI, those all make sense, but your Arnold Palmer pun goes right over my head. If most of your guests will understand one reference over the other, you can be more creative with that one. Then you can be more obvious/direct with your other option.

Also, don't try to force the name of the real drink into your signature name. You will have a sign by the bar with the name of your drinks, which is also where you'll explain what's in it. So, the "Michigan Margarita" is a little on the nose. But "The Diag: A margarita with white tequila, blue curacao, triple sec, and a squeeze of lime juice" is much more interesting.
    Hope this helps!

Honestly, I'd just call them the Nittany and the Wolverine... and have a tally so that the most popular one wins day of... and gets bragging rights forever.

But that's because I'm big into sports rivalries!

I think blue curacao will definitely come in handy for your Michigan themed drink! Smiley laugh What about a Wolvertini?

You could also do a "Nittany Neat" or a "Nittany Sour"? Or a "Nittany Nightcap"!

I’d go as literal or interpretative as you guys want. I love these suggestions! We knew we wanted to include our cat Momo in our drink.
We called it the Momojito! It was a peach (Momo is Japanese for peach) mojito with dark rum because that’s my husbands favorite! We had a sign on the bar explaining what it was with a picture of her. Maybe you could have the school mascots/emblems on your signs?

I’d start with the type of drink you want first, then work backwards on the name. And I absolutely love PPs idea of tallying the orders on a chalkboard to see who “wins” - so fun.
