Mexico or Hawaii honeymoon?

Brittani, on February 20, 2018 at 6:20 AM Posted in Honeymoon 0 16
So I was very sure I wanted to go to a secrets resort in Mexico for our October honeymoon but after looking into it more I’m really attracted to the idea of going to Hawaii even though it’s much pricier.
If it helps we are both in our 20s and want somewhere with a relaxing chill vibe and beautiful scenery. Neither of us are big drinkers. I really want to whale watch!
Any input is appreciated!

    Hi Brittany!

Both my FH and I are in our 20s and were trying to think of a place to go. We love hiking, outdoors, beautiful scenery, and wanted to find a place that wasn't super crowded. We went through a list of places to consider and kept coming back to Hawaii (specifically Maui and Kauai). We're getting married in September, but are postponing the honeymoon until April/May. Our thoughts are that it'll give us more time to save, we don't know if we'll have the funds to go back (we plan on having kids soon), and it just sounds like there's absolutely no comparison to the beauty, culture, and experience you get. I hope this helps! Congrats and good luck! Smiley smile

    Brittani,

Ergg. I swear I typed your name correct the first time. I didn't notice the auto correct until now!

I love both! It's worth mentioning that you'll want at least 9 days in Hawaii. That flight is killer! You also will likely want to island hop, which means muliple hotels. It is totally worth it, but with so much wedding planning I don't know that I want to plan a trip like that, too.
My Mexico experiences are a little more party oriented, but my sister is there now with her 8 year old and in-laws.

I think that your description of what you want perfectly fits Maui. I’m pretty sure whale watching season is winter in Hawaii, like January to March.

I’m team Mexico because I like an all-inclusive wedding and the resorts there are really lovely.

We are doing Mexico all inclusive resort- we figure we will be starting a family relatively soon and Hawaii is a good family vacation spot.

Great question! If you can afford to go to Hawaii, I would go there for your honeymoon. You can always go to all inclusives later with or without kids.

I just went to Tulum, Mexico (1.5 hours south of Cancun) in October and had an amazing time! Everyone thought we were there for our Honeymoon, even though we weren't, so I know it's a great destination. I've heard great things about Hawaii too so it depends on how long you plan on honey mooning. I think a week in Tulum would be nice. Lots to see and do but we enjoyed bike riding to the ruins there and the cenotes. Whichever you choose I'm sure will be amazing! Good luck!

So funny, my fiance has been to BOTH, I have been to neither, and when I asked him, he said Hawaii hands down! SO I think I want to save up to go to Hawaii in the summer/autumn months.

We got engaged in Hawaii and we absolutely loved it. It's absolutely beautiful. We did everything that you described that you wanted during the trip.

    Lydia,

April is still considered part of the rainy season in Hawaii. Try to book the trip late April/May if possible so you don't get rained out for your honeymoon

If you can afford Hawaii, I'd go there! My FH and I are planning on going in January 2019 after our wedding for our honeymoon! We are only going for a week but to keep stress low, we ended up using a travel agent to find us the best value/deal. While Mexico may be more affordable you could always go to an all inclusive with kids. Either way, both are beautiful!

We just went to a travel agent with the same question and walked out being SO excited to go to Playa del Carmen, Mexico! We're looking at The Royal Playa del Carmen which is a bit more relaxed scene (more of what we're looking at) with opportunities for excursions. Good luck Smiley smile

Ultimately I think it’s going to come down to what our budget dictates. Thanks for the input ladies. I think I’d rather go to Hawai’i but if it comes down to it Mexico will be fun too.
