Mexican Rituals and Traditions

Gracie, on July 13, 2015 at 11:01 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 11

What Mexican rituals/traditions are you doing at your wedding and in what order? I have a couple but wanting to see if anyone is doing anything different. Anyone having a tornaboda?

Following! I don't have anything decided yet, but our families are both Mexican so I'd love to incorporate something.

What's a tornaboda? I haven't heard of it. I'll tell you what I refuse to do, "la vivora de la mar" lol.

LOL, I'm with Ely no "vivora de la mar" for us either! Probably not doing a tornaboda. These are some traditions we have done or are doing. My fiancé asked for my hand in marriage from both my parents prior to proposing, which is not so common anymore, I was pretty touched by that. We are also doing the Arras and Lazo and having a full Catholic ceremony. We will be having a Mexican buffet for dinner and some antojitos for cocktail hour. We will also have Mariachi during the cocktail hour.

My FH is half Mexican and half El Salvadorian. We're not doing any traditional things but we will have the Mexican candies to give at the Welcome Dinner, we'll have a Mariachi band during cocktail hour and one of the favors is maracas. We're hand painting them gold to match the wedding and adding a little thank you note to them. We're hoping people will dance with them!

We are having mariachis too, so I guess that counts!

His family is hardcore Mexican and Catholic and my family is Salvadorian and non-denominational. His parents wanted to have a banda but we said no due to the fact that we want a variety of music so we compromised on a Mariachi for cocktail hour. I do like the sweet bread idea though!!

@LizzyS Thanks! The maracas have been such a challenge to paint obviously because they don't lay flat. It's taken so long to get them done! I think they'll be a hit but they've been a PAIN to do! I didn't want them to be all different colors so I had to make my life difficult and paint them all! lol
