Mexican Food Caterer in Northern California?

Alex, on February 28, 2015 at 2:59 PM Posted in Planning 0 3

I'm having a hard time finding a Mexican food caterer in Northern California. Our wedding is in Sacramento, Ca (apologize if this was suppose to be posted area specific, still figuring out ww site) but we would be willing to pay for a catering company (or restaurant) to travel from the surrounding area. I would rather go based on a recommendation of someone who had a Mexican caterer at their wedding. Taco truck, taco bar buffet or bbq set up outside, we are open to it all, just has to be Mexican food!

Thanks for any help!

    Hello neighbor!

    So my questions would be:

    1. Do you want an authentic Mexican caterer, or a good caterer that can serve Mexican food?

    2. Do you want service, or drop-off catering?

    3. How many guests at your reception?

Many of the taquerias will do steam pans of catered food, at very reasonable prices. I don't know where in Sacramento your reception venue is, but for example, my favorite local Placerville place (Fresh Mex Grill) does catering pans. La Esperanza and Yolandas are famous for their tamales but likely do catering too (they are at many of the Sacramento farmers markets). Adalberto's is one of my fave Mex places, and they do catering pans (and even do horchata and jamaica!!):

You would need to check to see if the places you call will deliver, or you will need to have someone pick it up. If you go this route, you'll need someone to manage the buffet set-up, keeping food hot and refreshed, and clean-up, with knowledge of food safety.

For an overall catering company, I've used Capital City Catering and they are wonderful. They don't specialize in Mexican food, though.

If you live here in Sacramento, you know that the food truck scene is really a hot commodity right now. Check out http://sactomofo.com/food-trucks/ for food trucks. There are several Mexican trucks on that page. I've personally hired Slightly Skewed, an Asian food truck (AWESOME!!!) and I've eaten at Drewski's (Yum!).

If you decide to go with BBQ, there are some good caterers like Texas Back Forty - one of my brides had them come and do drop-off for a backyard wedding. They might be able to put a Mexican spin on it, but I'm thinking a taqueria would do carne asada the best!

If you do Mexican, you might want to ask if their (refried) beans are made with lard or not. Beans are one thing vegetarians eat, and so it's helpful to have the beans made without lard so that they have something to eat.

Best wishes to you. If I can offer further help, please email me as I may not see a response here. monique "at" aspecialdaydesigns.com

Hi. So my mother in law ordered our food from La Esperanza. It’s mostly like drop off catering. And we’re doing the setup for the buffet line. And we’re also adding Asian food, still drop off catering
