Mermaid vs trumpet slip

Jaimee, on February 28, 2018 at 6:14 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 5
I bought a trumpet style dress. I really don’t want to pay DB prices for a slip. I found one on LetGo but it’s a mermaid style slip.

Will it look ok? Or should I stick to the trumpet slip?

If you're able to go to your DB and try on the mermaid slip with the dress, I would suggest it. I recently did this because I'm thinking of getting one of the DB slips off of ebay, but wanted to know if it was the look I wanted. I'm glad I did because it was nice to see and know that I made the right choice because there weren't returns available from the seller. I just told the DB people that I wasn't ready to buy a slip that day, but had a better idea about which one to buy later on.

When I was at DB they put a mermaid slip on me and I used it for both trumpet and mermaid dresses. They said it was the standard slip for any of those similar styles, granted that could be false, but I would think as long as it has a poofy part at the bottom it would accomplish accentuating the flare of the gown.

Yes it will work... I also refused to pay $80+ dollars for a slip from DB! I purchased a mermaid slip off of Amazon.com for $15.99 and it looks perfect with my trumpet dress! Good luck Smiley kiss

    Thanks ladies!

i just can’t bring myself to spend that much on something no one will see!

SO thinks buying used is bad luck, but I’m willing to take the risk to pay half of what DB wants. We’re 10 years in, if we don’t work out it won’t be because of a bridal slip. 😛

I'm going to offer some totally different advice.

If the main reason you want a slip is for the "pouf" at the bottom of the gown, then talk to the person altering your dress. He or she may be able to add some stiffer material to the underside of the gown in lieu of wearing a slip. (Bonus- less layers = staying cooler!) This can usually be done for a lot less than it would cost to buy a slip.

This is the advice my seamstress gave me for my gown. Turns out, once she looked at it, there was stiff material already added, it just needed to be steamed out and floofed a bit from where it had been hanging in a bag and got smooshed.
